Rita's Unpublished Article

The editor-in-chief of The Daily Prophet was reading a new article brought to him by Rita Skeeter.

PETER PETTIGREW: VICTIM OR VILLAIN

Peter Pettigrew, the wizard known for having sacrificed his life to prevent Death Eater Sirius Black from evading justice, had nothing but a finger left of his body. Meanwhile, the muggle bystanders killed during the conflict left charred full bodies. However, there's no solid evidence to confirm that the rest of Pettigrew's body had indeed been destroyed as the Ministry reports claimed, since Priori Incantatum hasn't been performed on either wizard's wand. Because of the Ministry's refusal to interrogate Black or collect his memories of the event, we can't be sure of which wizard killed those muggles or that Peter Pettigrew really died back then. Sure, the fact that Sirius Black is widely believed to have betrayed the Potters to You-Know-Who makes people see him as the most likely to become a mass murderer. However, no solid proof has been presented to confirm Black as the betrayer. All that Albus Dumbledore stated with his testimony was that Sirius Black was James Potter's first choice of Secret-Keeper. There's no reason to completely rule out the possibility that Peter Pettigrew was the real Secret-Keeper and was trying to prevent Sirius Black from exposing him.

"What do you think, chief?" Rita eagerly asked.

"Rita, I know we make up stories to sell newspapers without caring about whose reputations we destroy but our readers won't like a story making those horrible accusations against Pettigrew." The editor-in-chief answered with a stern look. "And, even if they did, my superiors ordered me not to publish anything suggesting Sirius Black might be innocent."

"Fine, I'll sell my article to another newspaper."

"Try the Quibbler!" The editor suggested. "They publish anything crazy and that article of yours easily beats their theory about Sirius Black being Stubby Boardman. However, I don't think they're paying much."

Fifteen years later, even Rita was shocked with the revelation that Sirius Black was indeed as innocent as her article suggested. She spent several days mourning for the extra credibility she could get as the first person to publicly defend the wrongly imprisoned heir of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.
