When Roxanne Weasley had transferred to Hogwarts from Beauxbatons during her fifth year (don't even ask - it had involved the caretaker, jam, flying rabbits and a very powerful muggle sound system) she had been completely determined to hate Scorpius Malfoy with a passion, in a show of fellowship towards her family.
She had heard so many stories and complaints from her cousins and brother - James on how the blond had bribed his way onto the Slytherin quidditch team, Al on how loudly he snored, Fred on how he always foiled his pranks, Molly on how he thought himself above the rules, Rose and Lucy on his constant quest to start a fight and his jibes against the Weasley name. Hugo and Lily, her best friends for as long as she could remember, had assured her that he was the most arrogant, rude, selfish, idiotic git that ever lived.
For a while, she had mostly succeeded (well, he was handsome and amusing). But then, after the Easter holidays, the blond himself had swept into her compartment, ignored her cousins' protests, kissed her hand and invited her to accompany him to his Graduation Ball at the end of that year.
She couldn't be sure, but Roxanne thought that perhaps it was his foul behaviour towards her relatives that made her love her boyfriend even more. Of course, she adored her family and would never wish real hurt on them, but his insults weren't truly horrible and … it made her special. He didn't like her because of her family, and she wasn't just an extension of the clan of war heroes, successful businessmen, brave aurors and brilliant Ministry officials to him.
Just as she didn't like him for his money, and didn't see him as a natural continuation of those bigoted cowards and spoilt airheads.
They were perfectly suited, Roxanne and Scorpius, despite what people said otherwise.
