Selfless

Summary: Uchiha Sasuke knew he was a selfish person. He was just about to add another to the list. Destroying Konoha. SasuNaru (kind of) [spoilers for ch 484-485]

Uchiha Sasuke knew he was a selfish person.

Leaving Konoha. Killing Orochimaru. Leaving Hebi to fight Itachi. Siding with the Madara. Leaving Jugo and Suigetsu. Stabbing Karin.

He was just about to add another to the list. Destroying Konoha.

Being selfish wasn't new to him. It was easy. Just think about Itachi and the injustice their clan faced. Don't remember of the innocents who would protest, don't remember of the acquaintances who would scream at the injustice, don't remember of the friends who would cry as well.

Don't think of the mother who is going to lose a child because of him. Don't think of the lovers who are going to lose one another. Definitely don't think of the child who might lose an older brother.

Instead he thinks of his best friend, his female companion, and his trusted mentor.

As he activates his Sharingan, he wonders whether it hurts him to view his student as an enemy.

Kakashi, you were right. But I can't turn back.

As he brings down his kunai to end her life, he wonders whether she still loves him.

Sakura, I'm sorry. But I can't be the one.

As he laughs morbidly, he wonders whether the other will still chase after him.

Naruto, thank you. But I can't return. Ever.

Rushing forward with the Chidori, Sasuke realized he must do something selfish again.

"It's too late, nothing you say can sway me."

Naruto won't give up Konoha for him. He won't give up revenge for Naruto.

"You must choose: to kill me and be a hero or to die at my hands and be my victim."

He had to force the other to choose.

Startling cerulean met bloodstained onyx.

"I choose neither."

The blinding white ended. The illusion of peace was gone. And Sasuke knew what he needed to do.

Naruto cannot choose to chase him anymore.

I won't let him.

Unknowingly, Uchiha Sasuke made the first selfless decision since leaving Konoha.
