a quick disclaimer: i neither own nor claim to own alice in wonderland or any of its characters. this poem, however, is a work of my own mind, inspired by lack of sleep and way too much fan fiction.

Of Cooling Tea and Fading Dreams

Have you ever wondered, Alice,
What it would be like if you had stayed?
Perhaps you would be mad like the rest of us,
Another victim of this world you made.

We all fell in at one time, Alice,
All dreamers hoping for something new.
For years I never found it, Alice.
It felt like lifetimes until I met you.

Do you know what is happening, Alice,
To this world inside of your head?
The flowers have stopped singing, Alice.
Everything that made this place so wonderful is dead.

My tea is growing cold, Alice,
As I sit here, waiting for you.
The Queen is becoming tyrannical, Alice,
Although I suppose that is nothing new.

Wonderland is fading, Alice,
And it hurts to watch it die.
I fear I will face death, too, dear Alice.
I am already swept up in the decline.

I myself am fading, Alice;
There is no laughter in my smile.
How I wish you would return, my Alice,
If just for a little while.

I know that you can save us, Alice;
You can save us all from the dark.
And I want you back for myself, dear Alice,
To mend your Hatter's broken heart.

I need you back, my dear, sweet Alice;
I need you to mend my soul.
I need you back, my dear, sweet Alice,
For without you I grow cold.

Have you ever wondered, Alice,
What it would be like if you had stayed?
Perhaps there would have been a chance for us,
And we would never, ever fade.
