(How long have you been stood there?)
When Patrick got in from work he heard a soft voice singing he knew instantly to be his wife's. He walked closer to the living room and leant against the door frame as she stood holding their baby girl quietly singing along to record playing in the background. Her voice more gentle and a higher pitch compared the male singer which made the song sound lighter. No wonder Angela was so settled.
Shelagh had a habit for picking the first record that came to hand and listening, maybe even letting him spin her around but it was rare she'd sing openly in front of him so he saw an an opportunity and took it.
'Just remember who's taking you home and in who's arms your gonna be…so darling save the last dance for me.'
Seeing her daughter had fallen asleep she gently kissed her head, took the needle off the record before turning to take her daughter to bed. She jumped slightly seeing her husband smiling from the door way.
"Patrick…" She blushed speaking quietly to not wake Angela. "How long have you been stood there?"
"A little while."
"Why didn't you say?"
"And miss a chance to hear that beautiful voice of yours?" He saw the embarrassment in her eyes but she had nothing to worry about. Her voice was beautiful, he preferred to hear it away from the choir.
"I have to put Angela to bed…" She insisted walking past him.
He smiled waiting for her to return moving into the centre of the room.
"How was your day?" She asked when she returned.
He moved the needle to the start of the record and took her hand bringing her closer.
"Patrick, what are you doing?"
"I'm building a house."He could tell by her raised eyebrow his sarcasm was not appreciated. "I just want to dance with my wife?"
She laughed slightly and agreed taking his hand to dance with him properly.
As the record ended there was a silent moment and Patrick simply held her in his arms, thinking how lucky he was.
"What's for tea?" Tim's voice from the door way made Shelagh jump again
"New rules…" She said firmly. "Everyone announces themselves when they get home."
