The doctor watched her. He pretended to jot down notes, all awhile watching Hiyoko prance about in the sun. Discreetly, of course. Shuu wasn't quite sure what she was doing, actually. She had spotted something and appeared to be chasing it.
When she skipped back to him, cheeks red from excursion, she smiled in a way that made Shuu want to carve his heart out so that it wouldn't beat so fast. She threw herself down, and then grinned at him. He glanced at her.
"Dare I ask what you were running after?" He said softly. Hiyoko laughed at his confusion.
"There was this amazing butterfly!" She cried. "Its wings were the color of a rainbow!"
Shuu sighed.
"How..." He hesitated for a moment. "Fascinating."
He was silent after that, but inside his mind, the gears were turning. Shuu had been wanting to procure a gift for her, to show his affection. The last thing he needed was her being snatched away because he didn't show he...cared, if that was the right word.
He smiled in his evil way, and wrote something down in his notes.
When Shuu called Hiyoko into his office, she was understandingly surprised. Rare indeed was it when the doctor showed interest in anything other than his experiments. School bag slung over her shoulder, Hiyoko opened the door to the infirmary. She looked around, but the doctor wasn't there.
"Doctor, are yo-"
Shuu appeared in front of her, once again fueling her theory that he was a ninja. His lab coat was was wrinkled, which concerned Hiyoko. While he wasn't usually neat, per-say, he seemed to most days put at least some effort in making his appearance look good. Today was not one of those days.
He smirked.
"I have something for you, Hiyoko," he said. "A gift." She really hoped it wasn't a body part. She loved him, but that was where she drew the line. From out of nowhere, he produced the gift. It was butterfly. But not just any butterfly.
"I spent all night cutting these insects up and sewing their wings together," Shuu said proudly. "Do you like it?"
It was weird. And creepy. Just like him. Taking it from him, she cradled the precious the gift in her palm.
"I love it," she said, a little misty eyed. "Thank you."
He seemed uncomfortable at her emotion, and he took a step back. She grabbed him with her free arm, not letting him escape. While he attempted to pry her off him, she stared with happy eyes at his gruesome creation.
Hiyoko was willing to bet none of the other girls had something like this. Who needed a handbag when you had a Frankenstein butterfly? After all, she thought, attempting to kiss Shuu. It's the thought that counts.
