"I think Mika should wear the veil."

Mikaela casts a bemused look at his fiancé and tilts his head. "Why?"

"Because you're pretty!" Yuu punctuates his words with a large grin. "The prettier one always wears the veil, right?"

Mika feels a flush rising to his cheeks. Two can play at that game. "But Yuu-chan is way cuter. I think you should wear it, after all."

"Hah?" Yuu looks utterly flabbergasted, he's actually sputtering a little, and there's red rushing to his face, too, though Mika suspects it's more because of anger. "I am definitely not cute." Is he growling?

"You are!"

"Am not!" Yuu stomps his foot petulantly, almost like a child, and a trill of laughter leaves Mika's throat.

"Okay, okay…why don't we just nix the veil altogether?" That's probably a good idea, anyway – they're both men, and honestly, Mika can't actually recall seeing two men in a wedding photo together, as in two men who had gotten married to each other, but he guesses that's neither here nor there and definitely not the time to mention it.

"Eh?" The annoyance slowly fades from Yuu's expression, replaced with something similar to bewilderment. "Why?"

"Well, neither of us are girls, so we can't really wear it…" Mika trails off quietly when Yuu opens his mouth to protest.

"But! There's always someone wearing a veil in wedding photos, right? At least the ones I've seen." Yuu's brows furrow slightly. "That's…that's 'family'…" It's not really what he wants to say, and he's aware of the strangeness of it, but there's really no other way he knows to articulate the odd feeling in his chest. It's not quite dejection – it's an intangible, indescribable feeling, hovering somewhere between loss and desperation. He even holds up one of his hands unconsciously, as if reaching for something he can't see.

And then he does see, and suddenly it clicks.

"I know," he says, the fist of one hand hitting the palm of the other as he nods to himself. Mika is about to inquire as to his sudden change of mood when he suddenly asks, "How about we both wear it?"

A stunned silence descends in the modest apartment as Mika slowly processes the suggestion. It's not because it's a bad one – it's actually a very good one, one he can't believe he hadn't thought of himself. Yuu is beginning to look a bit anxious, so he supposes he ought to humour him with a reply.

He does so by pulling his fiancé into a hug and planting a kiss on his cheek. "That's a wonderful idea, Yuu-chan. I'd love to wear the veil with you."

Yuu's expression transforms into a beatific smile, and no matter how many times Mikaela sees it, it's always as if the sun has peeked out of the clouds. He feels warmed simply looking at him, or maybe that's just because he's always warm in Yuu's presence, no matter where he is.

"But, I really think that you should still wear most of the veil...hey, maybe we really should take up Shinoa's offer?"

Or maybe it's just because Yuu hasn't said anything silly yet. "Yuu-chan, you know I will never fit into Shinoa's dress…"

"You can't give up until you try!"
