Scout looked back as the base started to disappear from view. His heart ached a little as he thought of the eight other men he used to work with. Sure, he missed them, all of them, but he was going to much better places than the RED base now.
He waited, and soon he arrived at a beautiful town. This is where his Ma lived now. He got up and started walking down the brightly lit street. It was beautiful, and there was colour everywhere, although the ground was an amazing white. He smelled the wonderful scent that the town seemed to carry. His Ma must've loved living here.
There were bright smiles on everyone's faces as he passed them. Not only was the town itself was beautiful and near perfect, the people who lived here were nice and cheerful. Definitely a big change from his previous life back at RED base.
He soon approached a light blue house, and he instantly knew his Ma was inside. He walked up to the porch, it's boards painted brown along with a few flower pots sitting on top of them. Inside each pot were bright red roses. His Ma's favourites.
He knocked on the front door of the small blue house and waited. Only a few seconds passed until the door opened, revealing a woman, in her 40s wearing a red dress and with short, black hair. She wore silver earrings in the shape of rings. When she saw Scout standing there, her face brightened, if that was even possible, and she had the biggest smile on her face. Scout too had a smile on his face, and ran towards his ma. He engulfed his mother in a big bear hug, and she returned it. He started to feel a burn in his eyes and throat, and he started to sob. His mother also appeared to be crying. "I'm so glad to see you again, baby." She whispered. "I've missed you."
Scout smiled. "Me too, Ma. Me too."
Back at the RED base, the remaining eight mercs slowly made their way to the back of the base, where the land seemed to stretch for miles. All eight men lined up outside, while Miss Pauling asked them questions, trying to get some insight on what happened. After all that was done, she led them down to the burial sight. Every one of them crowded around the small black coffin. Inside the coffin was Scout.
They all bowed their heads as they looked at the poor young boy, who had been shot after battle, when re-spawn wasn't there to save them. Tears filled all of their eyes. Even Miss Pauling and Heavy seemed to be shedding some tears. All too soon, the coffin was lowered into the ground, with the help of Heavy, and he started putting dirt back into the hole. While Heavy was doing this, mostly everyone left, except for Spy and Miss Pauling.
Heavy had finished, then nodded to Spy and Miss Pauling, then receded back into the base. Miss Pauling turned to Spy. "Are you going to be okay?" She asked him. Spy raised an eyebrow. "What? But of course. Things like this always happen. It's just part of the job. Nothing anyone can do about it. You get used to it after a while." He said, and shrugged her off. Miss Pauling nodded, but was not convinced. She left without another word.
Now that he was finally alone, Spy leaned down to the grave of Scout. He would never admit it, and no one would ever dare to question him about it, but he started to cry, and he cried for quite a while. Soon the tears stopped flowing, and he regain composure. He cleared his throat and said one final thing before returning to the base.
"I will see you again in another life, mon fils."
