Wind blowing harshly and unforgivingly against her face made it easier for her to curb the emotions that threatened to bubble up to the surface and overtake her. And as she stood on the edge of cliff, she imagined herself sailing across the universe and beyond.
But that was simply a dream. A dream that had died long ago and now lay curl, decrepit and dead, deep within the recesses of her mind. That's how all dreams ended up for her though. It wasn't a surprise. Yet still with morbid sense of irony the corners of her face folded into a smile as she held that dream in the palms of her hand again.
It had been a long time since a smile had graced her face. And it was a beauteous thing to behold. For, all that knew her had long since forgotten that this face once was beautiful. That this face once held more joy and gaiety than could be restricted in any container. But the wind had not. The wind remembered all, and especially remembered that this girl, this woman, used to be something real exceptional. But her glory days had long since passed away. Now only the earth, the wind and the water knew of her gifts and joys. For everyone else had left her in the dust of their own ambition and greed.
For too long had she bore the cold scrutiny of other who thinks themselves better than her.
For too long had they found her lacking where instead she was abundant.
For too long was she left out of the cold of her house, while they ate the fruits of her labor.
For too long had she given love and received nothing in return.
For too long had she feared love in the wake of her broken heart and dreams.
This was her time.
So, she stood at the edge of her world, looking out against the horizon for the last time. Gently that wind of such kind and loving nature wiped the tear off of her face and out of her eyes. She took a step, a single, innocent enough, step towards her last and final dreams. A dream that no one could take away from her this time. With a smile on her face, the wind gave her love, the earth gave her love and the water gave her peace.
Peace. No pain, just Peace. The deep, penetrating black heaven of Peace. The warm, caressing hug of Peace. No pain, just Peace. Emily. Jacob. Seth. Mom. Dad. Sam. Peace.
