Author's Note: The first couple chapters of this are rewritten as of Nov. 2014 to go along with the story better. Please don't ask about the old version, they were written Early 2012, and the fifth generation was barely even out.
In other words, thanks for clicking on this fic I guess. It isn't my first story, but definitely my first Pokemon story. I hope for this to be an interesting journey for both me and whoever is reading. Throughout the story, i'll be posting the movesets and Pokemon of Each main character at the time, but not every chapter. These movesets will usually be at the bottom. If I go a while without posting one (They are generally painful to type and organize so that it looks nice in the site format) just PM me and I'll post it or something. But other than that, enjoy.
Edric pressed a button on the clock, stopping it from making that terrible noise. He groaned and sat up on his bed, reaching up to pull back the curtain on the window above his bed. The sun shone through, irritating his eyes.
"Good morning, sun."
He threw his legs over his single bed and pulled back the covers. It always took him a while to do this, getting up early in the summer, but today was worth it. He huffed excitedly and peeled the shirt off from around his neck, grabbed a towel and headed for the bathroom.
After a long shower, Edric got dressed in light clothing and shoes suitable for walking. These were the shoes he would wear the entire half-year he would be on his journey, or at least until he had enough money to buy new ones, which he assumed wouldn't be long. He had already passed the trainer's academy in Twinleaf two years ago, and after two whole years of High School, Edric had the option to embark on his journey or continue to University. After a long argument (although extremely one-sided) he and his father, a professional Pokèmon researcher in the Unova Region, had convinced his mother it was beneficial to all of them if he went to train. Edric was an aggressive teenager, which translated to a fierce calculative abilty in battle. He was strong-headed and confident in school. During the short simulation sessions, where students in Trainer's Academy got to test their skills against a computerized opponent, Edric excelled. He and his boyfriend Ethan had scored at their top of their class since 4th year, and kept their spots since 8th. Usually, when kids graduated from Trainer's Academy, they would be awarded their first Pokèmon and a Pokedex. But, due to budget cuts, they left the academy with only a certificate.
Once Edric was finally ready, he sat down on his bed and picked up his phone from the end table. Unlocking it, he found he had a text message from Ethan.
Ethan: Waiting outside the Pokèmon Lab. Are you even up yet?
Edric: Yeah, Just got done getting dressed. Be there in a sec. Eating breakfast.
Edric unplugged his charger from the wall, folded it up neatly and placed in a side pocket of his bag.
Breakfast was waiting for him on the dining room table when he came downstairs. The house was quiet, his mom having left for work already. He was actually thankful for that. His mom had cried and sobbed it all out yesterday night, so he wouldn't have to deal with all that sadness this morning before he left. She had left a note though, which Edric discovered as he was opening the door to leave.
You have a surprise waiting for you on the living room table. I hope you like the color -Mom
Edric knew what it was before opening the box, because he remembered asking for one a few weeks ago. It was small and square with a strap too big to be like a watch, so it went around the upper arm usually. It had a camera on the front as well as a flash, but most of it was taken up by the small touch screen.
A Pokètech, equivalent in every way to a Pokèdex, save for the bulk.
Edric smiled, thankful, and attached the Pokètech to his arm.
The walk from his house to the Pokèmon Lab was a short one, being just five blocks down. The town of Twinleaf wasn't busy, although heavily populated, offering a lot of attractions in the Sinnoh region. One thing they didn't have that Edric and Ethan noted in Trainer's Academy was the lack of an actual Pokèmon Center. The academy had healing stations, of course. Bu that was about it.
Edric turned the final corner and immediately saw the lab, A figure standing against the entrance of the Lab, a flat yellow building that only made up a third of the actual property. The rest of it was a giant domed garden with a pretty expansive pool. The lat time Edric had been there is his last year of the Academy. Trainer's were instructed to go and befriend a random Pokèmon for their Midterm. The Pokèmon Edric had befriended was the same species as the one he had chosen for today, as was Ethan's.
"Ready to go?" Ethan said when Edric was in speaking distance. He was four inches taller than Edric at 6'0" and brown haired, like Edric. His green eyes screamed excitement, despite his nonchalance during Edric's conversation with him last night.
"Yeah. I think so."
And with that, they walked through the doors of the Pokèmon Lab, their new lives as Pokèmon Trainers finally beginning.
