FBI consultant Patrick Jane was sitting on the edge of his bed in his dark bedroom. His eyes were on the needle in his hands and the drug in it that could make it all go away. At least for a little while.

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away

He remembers the night he came home from work only to find…. His wife and child had been brutally murdered. His entire life lay dead before his eyes. --------------------------------------------------------------

This is how Agent Teresa Lisbon finds Jane 5 minutes later. He looks up when she walks in. "Jane! What've you done?" she yelled frantically.
He just looked up at her and hopelessly shrugged his shoulders. "What's this worth anymore Teresa? Putting on this act day after day, doesn't change anything."

She ran over to the bed and pulled him to his feet. "You-- We will get through this Jane! And did you ever stop to think how losing you would make ME feel? Even for a second? Or how many people would die because of you? You have an incredible mind Jane and think of everyone you've already saved? It may not make up for the loss of your family but you've come this far don't waste it all now!" she yelled.
"I'm sorry Teresa I didn't know… I didn't think anyone cared."
"Your wrong Jane. You may be smart when it comes to logic but you need to start paying attention to yourself and the people around you!" she consoled. "But… every time I let someone get close they die Teresa." he stuttered. "Not this time Jane!"
And with that she helped him down the stairs, got him into her SUV and took him to the one place she would know he was safe-- Her place.
