F.W.B

The first thing you notice as you come down is that it's closer to dawn than you thought. The shapes in the apartment are becoming more distinct and the odd traffic noises are becoming more frequently interspersed with the buzz of the neon sign outside your apartment. You hadn't time to notice it before when He'd woken you.

He'd slid in next to you while you were still sleeping and it's a testimony to how frequently these little escapades occur that when he enters the apartment he no longer wakes you. Instead you were brought jolting back to awareness as his lips pressed fiercely against yours. Your hands had automatically flung out to push the intruder away but stopped when they landed palms down on hard muscle. He also freezes for a moment waiting for you to get with the program, and you know even in the darkness that he's smirking.

Grumbling, you kiss him just so you don't have to see the smirk. The bitter aftertaste of alcohol and cigarettes tells you that you're not his first stop for the night. Neither of you smoke and it's like a knife in your stomach, but you shove the feeling aside as he takes control.

Now though, he's passed out at your side and one of your hands is lazily curled around his waist. Looking at him in the dark room you wonder if it will always be like this. Will it be enough? But you know if you push him, he'll run. He trusts you, that much is clear by the fact that he stays. You're different from the others, he's told you as much.

You're best friends first and foremost. You're the one he comes to when he needs to talk. He drags you out when he's in the mood for a quiet drink or when he knows that you're feeling especially miserable. He's the most stable part of your life now. And it works both ways though you won't admit it.

When you met him you hadn't been looking for anything. In fact you'd made up your mind to blindly ignore everyone around you. It was easier that way. He'd just laughed and followed after you. You were a challenge and far more interesting than any of the other fresh faced boys and girls who had just signed their lives away.

So he'd stuck to you like glue, somehow working it so that they had some of their classes together and he was always there when you finished working late. Then somehow you'd fallen into this… routine.

Apparently you are the only one who has lasted this long. All of his other consorts have fallen along the side. Demanding too much of him, scaring him away. You know how much he skitters away from any form of commitment. You get him to stay because you don't ask that he gives them away, even though you know you want to. You can wait.

Tomorrow morning, he'll act as if you're nothing more than friends. He'll tell you about the girl he's got lined up for that evening and you'll hate her instantly though you'll never tell him that. Outwardly you roll your eyes and tell him about the half a dozen worst STD's you can think of off the top of your heads. He'll laugh and leave with a cheery grin and a slap on your back so you can get back to your misery.

Friends with Benefits?

Fools Without Brains more likely.

Damnit.
