A/N: I usually play a mage Hawke, because on the higher difficulties Anders is just not a good enough healer anymore and have a Spirit Healer is almost essential. This is always a conversation that I couldn't imagine not having when playing mages. It's short but I think highly important.
Also, I fully intend to bring all my "Possibilities" stories into one long chapter story, I'd prefer is to be a linear tale, not episodic. And currently the muses see fit to bounce me around the tale.
Disclaimer: Dragon Age is owned by Bioware, I just hang out.
Knight-Captain Cullen continued to survey the happenings in the Gallows, thankful for the shade of the wall in the hot sun. He noticed Hawke enter the Gallows courtyard without her usual retinue and puzzled over her lack of companions. She appeared to be slightly nervous before she noticed her shake her head and walk confidently in his direction. She stopped in front of Cullen; mage staff displayed openly on her back and watched him. Cullen found it hard not to fidget under her scrutiny.
"You're not a very good templar, are you?" Hawke finally asked boldly.
"Excuse me?" Cullen asked, surprise written clearly on his face.
"You're not a very good templar, are you?" she repeated again, the same bold expression on her face.
"Well, I didn't get to be Knight-Captain for being a bad templar," Cullen finally stated, not liking where this line of questioning was going and looking around to see if anyone was close enough to listen.
"Well, if you're such a great templar, why haven't you locked me up yet?"
"How is that relevant to my being a good templar?"
"I know you know I'm a…" Hawke looked around quickly before continuing: "mage."
"Yes Serah Hawke, but you did the order a favor and I for one do not lock up those who perform favors."
"But you paid me for that favor, so why have you not rounded up some templar buddies and dragged me screaming into the night to lock me up?"
"Serah, you saved my life when you were tracking down Wilmod and he turned into an abomination. You could have easily let him kill me and been done with it. That act of kindness is the favor I refer to." Cullen reminded her.
"Oh, see I thought you were talking about saving Keran," Hawke whispered. "So you're not going to lock me up?"
"If you wind up in the Gallows, it will not have been by my hand or any information I have concerning you, Hawke," Cullen explained. "I do not abandon life debts."
"Huh," Hawke stewed on the information Cullen had told her, chewing on her bottom lip. Finally she flashed him a huge smile before saying: "Well, thanks." Then she turned on her heels and began to walk out of the Gallows.
"Wait!" Cullen called after her, even more confused. "Is that all you wanted to know?"
"Pretty much," Hawke replied simply, flashing him another smile over her shoulder before continuing her journey back out of the Gallows.
Cullen was left standing in the shade of the hot sun and chuckling despite himself.
