Destruction of the Ninth Gate
Prologue
"Abhorsen, you are needed north; there is a charter stone that starts to rumble two days ago. The villagers are frightened, because they don't know that a charter stone could rumble, that's it, no one knows and it hasn't been recorded anywhere at anytime in history. So they moved up to the mountains. Please come ASAP." The voice message ended. Sabriel sighed, so much for a holiday! She had just come back from settling the Southlings, now she was needed again. However this rumbling charter stone intrude Sabriel's interested very much. Charter stone couldn't rumble, they could be broken by a Charter Mage's blood, yes, but that was all. Sabriel wondered if this is a trap to get her, if it is a trap, it wasn't so cleverly designed.
Rubbing her temple, she tried to decide on going or not. Just then, a strong arm was thrown around her and pulled her up from her seat. Sabriel turned and kissed her husband lovingly.
"You are going out again?" There was a hint of sadness and understanding in Touchstone's voice. "When are you leaving?"
Sabriel nodded to his first question and answered the second one with some regrets of her own. "Tomorrow morning, before dawn. I'll take a Paperwing."
"Do you want me…?" Touchstone trail off because Sabriel shook her head.
"No, you have a Kingdom to care for." Sabriel said.
"But this is really…odd, a charter stone rumbles? Never heard of it. Take someone with you, maybe Lirael? She is the Abhorsen-in-waiting." Touchstone suggested.
"I don't know." Sabriel rubbed at her temples again. "I suspect a trick or another Greater Dead causing mischief." She paused. "But I suppose, I could take Lirael with me."
"Who is also your half-sister." Touchstone reminded Sabriel.
"Right." Sabriel agreed.
Touchstone grinned, picked up Sabriel and threw her into the air, making her laugh with delight. They played for a few minutes before Sabriel said; "Let me down, I needed to pack. Tell Lirael to get ready for tomorrow morning and meet me at the top tower before sun rise."
They shared their sweet kisses again before depart to their own task.
Ok, this chapter was longer on my draft, I cut it into two chapters…Hope you like the prologue. It had been some time when I last read Garth Nix's books, but I suddenly came up with this idea…it's so attempting so I wrote it.
Remember, reviews please!
Hugs and kisses,
