Inspiration: NYE fireworks. Loved them! But my little sister was so scared, yet in total awe! Hope you like it!
Rima was scared of fireworks.
She was sixteen years old, but she acted more like she was six months old around them. They frightened her.
She appeared fearless – brave blueberry eyes, courageous expression that she wore 24/7… but not around fireworks.
"Are you going to be alright tonight?" Senri asked, as the two sat in the dining room and ate breakfast.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Headmaster Cross is setting off fireworks for New Year's Eve," Senri explained. Rima's usually fearless eyes widened in terror.
"Rima? Don't worry, okay!" Senri quickly said.
"W… will you be here?" Rima asked, stammering. She hoped Senri would be there to give her his support; he was so good with support.
"No, I can't be, I have to visit my Great-Uncle. I'm sorry… but just tell Ruka you don't like them, she'll look after you," Senri suggested.
"No!" Rima quickly said.
"Why not?" Senri asked, frowning.
"I don't want anyone to know I'm scared… don't tell anyone, OK?"
"OK," Senri promised.
Rima sighed. "I wish you could be there tonight."
"I wish I could be there tonight too," Senri answered, a little sadly.
Rima hugged him. "You're the bestest friend, ever."
"Bestest isn't a word," he whispered, blushing a little as he hugged her back.
"It is now," she retorted.
At twelve o'clock, the fireworks went off. Rima ignored them as best she could. She sat couped up in a corner, but the bangs and screams and bright fiery colours scared her to the point she was trembling and crying. Everyone else was gasping in awe of their 'beauty'.
Senri held out a hand.
"Madam."
Rima ignored the hand and gave him another hug. "Senri! You came!"
She then frowned.
"Why did you come? You said you had to visit your Great-Un…"
"I cancelled the visit. Making sure you were okay meant everything plus."
Rima cuddled Senri. The two stared up at the fireworks, smiling. When Rima was with Senri, she couldn't be scared of anything.
In fact, Rima felt almost upset when the last blueberry-blue firework finished exploding and became blueberry-coloured sparkles, and then vanished into thin air.
