Shadow possession jutsu complete. His final enemy, a young kunoichi, was finally trapped in his jutsu. He made her bend of her a pick up a stray kunai while his hand remained empty. He knew he couldn't hesitate. That would only prolong her suffering. Quickly his hand flew in front of his neck causing her to slit her own throat. Grotesquely, she remained standing until he released the jutsu and her body hit the ground hard.

The clearing was littered with bodies. They were all only genin and chunin so their numbers weren't really a problem but it had taken some time and the first ones to fall were already starting to fester in the humidity and summer heat.

There were no more chakra spikes, letting Shikamaru know that Temari had also finished her final opponent. He didn't turn to check on her. She wouldn't appreciate the gesture so he walked just far enough into the trees to lose sight of the clearing and sat down, leaning against one of the trunks. It really was too hot.

Closing his eyes, he felt rather than saw her sit next to him. He knew he should say something. Mention how they were doing their job. How they only defended themselves against the horde of unexperienced ninja. How it wasn't their fault that all those children were dead.

But it was so hot and he was too damn tired to offer her the customary lies. He stayed silent and she didn't really seem to mind. She never really believed them anyway. Besides those words wouldn't fix anything and its easier to just sit here and watch the leaves fall.
