Prompts: 4. Jewel from 30 Deathfics.
Warnings: Character death
Author's Notes: I've always had a bit of fixation with eyes equals jewels if the eye color is right. Beta by purpleicicles.

Goku always thought that Sanzo had pretty eyes. Sure they were droopy but that made them even prettier, in his opinion. They were almost always narrowed in annoyance and anger but there were times, like when Sanzo just woke up, when Goku saw them lose their intensity. It was moments like those where Sanzo looked really young.
Once, when he and Hakkai had been shopping for supplies, they had passed a stall selling jewelry. There was a necklace with a stone whose color was the same as Sanzo's eyes. Hakkai had told him that they were amethysts. Goku committed the stone's name to memory.
Sanzo's eyes could speak volumes, maybe because the monk didn't like to talk that much and another form of communication was needed. They could be filled with contempt, amusement, anger, exasperation. Sometimes all Goku had to do was look at Sanzo—at his eyes—and he could tell what was most probably going through the blond's mind. He wonders why other people find it so hard to read Sanzo the way he does.
The fact that he can read Sanzo's eyes is hammered home by that one night in the temple before they ever heard about Gyumao. Goku woke up from a nightmare, screaming in fear. He had been sleeping on Sanzo's bed, sneaking into the monk's room after everyone was asleep. The worry and concern in those amethyst-colored eyes had been evident and even while he clung to Sanzo's waist, sniffling, Goku had been happy because he knew right there that Sanzo would always be there for him.
Goku always thought that Sanzo had pretty eyes. And that's why it hurt so much for him to watch the life drain out of them.
