JJ/Hotch 'Butterflies'

I'm just a poor gal, I don't own anything. This is just a short little JJ/Hotch fluff. All mistakes are mine.

He told her once that when she found the right guy, she'd know. She'd feel something so strong and so undeniable she couldn't question that she was madly in love. And in order to know if he was the right guy, well, the guy in question had to feel that way too. He told her that after she confided in him that she and Will had broken up. She guessed it was how he had felt, or still felt about Haley once upon a time. It had been three years since she'd seen him. Sure, she'd sent an email here or there, a card for his or Jack's birthdays, but she hadn't seen him in the flesh since she left the BAU to take a job in Chicago at a PR firm. At the time, she was trying to save her relationship with Will and to spend more time with Henry in his formative years. She almost regretted her decision now as she and Will had crashed and burned. They parted amicably at least only a year after she had left. She always had coming back to the BAU in the back of her mind, but she always shook the thought away. She enjoyed her current job and being a mother to her five year old. She still saw Emily, Garcia and Spence on a semi-regular basis. Either she or Emily would fly in once a month so they could get coffee together. Garcia, she webcams with once a week, and allowed Garcia her godmother duties every third weekend. Spence would come stay with her any weekend he didn't have a case. Spence took his godfather duties almost as serious as Garcia. Poor Henry was quite the spoiled little boy. Rossi and Morgan she'd hear from every so often, either by them or she herself calling them just to check in.

For some reason, she and Hotch hadn't attempted to have more than a card or email kind of friendship. When he called her yesterday, saying he was in town and wanted to grab a cup of coffee, she was shocked. She immediately agreed and set it up for 10 minutes from now. For some absurd reason, she nervous. It had been three years. She and Hotch had always had a quiet understanding. When she started at the BAU, she had more than a professional eye on him, she'd admit but once she learned he was happily married that idea went out the window. Not that it should have been in the window at all since he was her boss. Her mind went to the place it shouldn't. It said, he's not married now or your boss. Shaking her head in disbelief, she took a big gulp of her coffee when she saw him. Still as handsome and stoic as ever.

Aaron Hotchner spotted her quickly and shot a small smile and wave in her direction. She blushed and waved back. What was wrong with her? It's been three years. Let it go, Jennifer. Hotch sat down across from her and said hello. After that, they fell into an easy flow of conversation, just like they used to. Soon, an hour had gone by and a the rain had started to pour. She doesn't recall exactly how it happened but she invited him over to catch up some more over a glass or two of wine. He agreed. Somehow one or two glasses turned into four or so, she'd honestly lost count. It was Hotch who broached the subject first, saying how it's strange not to be her boss anymore but that it wasn't a bad thing. Then he said he had missed me. Which, he'd said at least two times before when he was my boss. However, this time, when he said those three words, I felt it. I felt that indesirable feeling he told me about so many years ago. He brought his hand to brush a piece of hair behind my ear, and in that moment I just knew I had to see if he felt what I was feeling, so I kissed him. He resisted for a moment and I almost pulled back but then something magical happened. He kissed me back and I knew, as he buried his hand in my hair, I just knew, he felt it too.
