It was the third time in about a week, Duo had called Wufei to talk. Wufei wasn't at all reluctant to accept a phone call from his closest friend from the war.

"Duo? You must have a very large phone bill for calling this much." Wufei laughed as he picked up the phone and listened to Duo chatter without a real topic or purpose.

Wufei gazed out the window of the Preventers Headquarters and noticed a small sparrow sitting on the window sill. The bird stared at him with wonder and Wufei stared back with a smile on his usually stern face.

"You do know that I'm not going to disappear into thin air in the next five minutes. In other words, you can stop talking so damn fast!" Wufei felt a slight headache start as he tried to keep up with Duo's talking.

"I have to go for now Duo, so call me later." Wufei nodded a couple of times to make sure he remembered when Duo would call.

As he hung up the phone, Sally Po walked in with a new case and mission for Wufei.

----------

Duo resisted the urge to call Wufei back again and make sure he was still alive. The reason Duo had called Wufei was because he had heard about Heero and how he'd almost been comatose for the rest of his life.

If Heero could have an accident that was life endangering, then Wufei could definitely have one too. Duo felt afraid at the thought of Wufei being hurt like that or dead.

Duo decided to try to keep his mind off of Wufei and went to watch TV.

---------

"Hello! It's Duo! Did you get home late again? Oh well, call me back tomorrow." The message machined beeped and confirmed that it had taken the message.

The apartment was empty and would stay like that forever.

---------

Duo rubbed his eyes and stretched his arms over his head in an attempt to wake him up more. He dragged his way to the fridge and grabbed a soda with a candy bar he had stashed.

Duo sat heavily on the couch and fumbled with the remote as he tried to turn on the TV. Once on, Duo started channel surfing and stopped when he heard a brief sentence about someone dying last night.

Duo was curious to see who it was or if he had known them, but when he saw the picture of the person on the screen; his heart nearly stopped.

---------

All four of the remaining pilots stood around the grave and mourned the death of their friend.

Quatre, Trowa, and Heero all looked upset and Duo knew they were. But, he was the one who would be forever devastated by Wufei's death.

His face was red and he was still crying as Heero ushered him away. Looking back at the grave, Duo bid silent farewell. He failed at actually saying it, but he knew that Wufei would hear him loud and clear.
