Rohawn's Fate
Rohawn stood with what was left of the town's militia, waiting for Viktor and Thane to arrive. They all knew this would be the last battle they ever fought, but it didn't matter. They were going to die fighting for their town and it was that reason that gave them the courage and strength to fight, despite how the odds were against them.
All of a sudden the dragon and its rider were upon them. They had no time to react. The dragon opened its mouth to shoot out a bolt of lightning. Rohawn ducked and rolled out of the way just in time. He heard the screams of the others, felt the heat of the dragon's breath and shuddered.
Rohawn closed his eyes, trying to block out the chaotic sounds of the battle all around him. He thought about all he had been through the past few years. He thought of his friends; Corrigan, Sindri, Cat, Elidor and everyone else he had met along the way. He wished he could have seen them all one last time.
But it was too late now. This was it. He was going to die. He knew it as well as everyone else. And oddly enough, it didn't bother him nearly as much as he would have thought. In a strange way, he was okay with it. There were only a few things he regretted.
He regretted letting Corrigan down by not becoming a Solamnic knight. He regretted not insisting he go along with Cat to her hometown, for if he had he wouldn't be in his current situation; on the brink of death.
But there was more to it than that. He regretted not telling her how he felt, that he loved her. Many times he had come close to telling her, but each time he had backed out. And now it was too late. He hadn't even gotten to say goodbye. For she had left while he still slept.
Tears trickled down Rohawn's face as he thought about her. He wished he could at least see her one last time. But it was too late now. Now all he could do was die an honorable death and make her proud.
Rohawn crawled from his hiding place and stood to face the dragon and its rider. The dragon turned its giant head to look at Rohawn, its eyes gleaming in the sunlight. It opened its great mouth, Rohawn could see the lightning forming inside its cavernous jaws.
He stood his ground though, never fearing what was to come. The wind blew his brown hair as he held his head high. He faced the dragon with his sword held high like a man. For a man he had become. He may not have been some great Solamnic knight, but it didn't matter. Because in every way that counted, he was. He was strong and courageous. He seemed older than he had before. Like he had somehow aged in the moments that had passed during the Viktor and Thane's attack.
Once more he thought of Cat. He saw her perfectly in his mind. He saw her long flowing red hair framing her beautiful face. He thought of the times they had shared and tears trickled down his cheeks. He loved her with all his heart. He only wished he could have told her.
The dragon flapped its wings and the force of the wind that knocked Rohawn backwards. He tripped over a piece of debris and fell.
Rohawn felt the cold, hard, debris covered ground under him. He felt the heat of the dragon's lightning. And then he felt no more.
