Magic has many colours. It's woven into every fibre of the world around us, attached to every soul; it is in fact, the very essence of everything. But if you were to give it a colour what would it be?

It might be red; for danger and sacrifice, for passion and beauty. This amount of power can be very dangerous used in the wrong hands, yet in the right ones it can be used to create beauty.

It may be yellow; for reason and optimism, but also for betrayal. For some people, magic is their life. They would be little without it, so they see it as a source of happiness. Yet others only see the corruption that it sometimes brings, they see only the betrayal they are left with.

It could even be green; for nature and hope. The Old Religion is at the heart of everything; and it relies on the balance of nature. Some people rely on magic to bring them security and happiness, it is their hope and their life.

Perhaps it is indigo; for spiritual knowledge and religion. The Old Religion is at the heart of magic, so shouldn't it represent it?

There are some people who see it as white and others as black; white for purity and good, black for corruption and evil. These are the two extremes; magic can be both, but it is certainly not one or the other.

But the most common colour associated with magic seems to be gold. The colour of the dragon's eyes and the colour your eyes change to when you use magic. Surely this must be the true colour of magic?

But whatever colour magic is, it doesn't really matter, because if you look at it in monochrome it will always be the same. Grey. Not white, not black; grey. Magic is neither good nor bad. It just is. It can be used for good and for evil; it all depends on who is wielding it. Magic is like a sword. It can be used to protect the innocents, or to harm them. It just is, and that is how it will always be.
