Hello there
'It is time' Rin tells herself.
It had been months since Obito's death and because of it the bond between Kakashi and herself has grown. (Grown, grown, growngrow—they are closer than ever)(She tells herself)
Before Kakashi never stayed past team practices and very rarely did he eat out with the team. He was always disappearing to do what ever he did. (no one knows where he went, no one asked—sometimes she thinks that she knows or that she should know)
Now Kakashi eats lunch with her, walks her home, and always checks up on her before and after missions. (He even makes use of the medkit she gave him)
He still disappears, (regularly) but before he does he checks her over with his eyes to make sure she is okay (she loves it). (At first she thinks that it is because of Obito's death, what he makes Kakashi promise—she felt touched, then a bit irritated (because she is a Kunoichi she doesn't need to be protected)—but that was months ago, and he stillchecks up on her)
'He cares' she tells herself.
She has loved him for quite some time. In the academy—the brief time he was there—it started off as a small crush (curiosity at his brilliance and skill) then when they were put on a team together it turned into something else. Something she is surehe returns now. She was never a fan girl she has better things occupy her time than that(her medical studies mainly—she is getting much better)
'Yes' she tells herself 'he must feel the same way'
She pats down her clothes and smiles in the mirror (she looks just right) and leaves for Kakashi's apartment.
As she walks through the dinnertime crowds she thinks about what she is going to say to him, well not what—but how. (No matter how much their connection has grown he is still a closed book and she doesn't want to move too fast and)—something catches her eye. (Silver hair, no. gravity-defying silver hair)
She pauses in her walk. The crowds are between them and on the opposite side in an alleyway there is Kakashi. She tilts her head and plans to cut through the masses to see him but the breaks in her legs are screeching to a halt. (Not him, no not him—them)
Hisa is there. (This should not bother her. Hisa and Kakashi are friends, childhood friends. They are always around each other) No this bothers her because they are leaning on the wall in the shadowed ally in what could only be an intimateembrace. (He is holdinghergently she is whisperinginhisear)
For splittinysmall second she feels her heart stop. When it starts again there is clarity—like she has never felt it before.
She breathes
Oh. Ohh—she understands now. It is like lightening that snaps through her. (Sharp and crackling and painful) (It was never her, she tells herself) It has always been Hisa—the disappearances the minute the team doesn't need him anymore, the way that he would look bored when the team was together (how he looked like he would rather be anywhere else—with someone else), and how he only ever saved lunch for her—because, because now she knows morning and evenings are for Hisa.
She is a promise she realized in that second. Kakashi cares for her because he promised Obito that he would.
'I understand now' she tells herself.
Notes:
So I don't actually mind the Kakashi/Rin pairing. Sometimes. In a lot of ways I do think Kakashi does genuinely care about Rin but in others I feel like it's due to the promise. I kind of wanted a bit of some issues Rin might have to show. She cared about Obito dearly. He was her best friend and that maybe Rin isn't recovering as well as she thinks she is.
Also in this little one shot I tried to go for something different. Read: the conscious and subconscious thoughts blending together.
Tell me your thoughts ?
