Another request from tate310, this time it's "Faulty Whistles" from Season 6. Enjoy and comment.
It was early morning on the Island of Sodor. Duncan was waiting for Peter Sam, who was bringing some freight cars for him to take to the strawberry grove. Duncan was also to take the headmaster and the new organ. While they waited, the headmaster played a lovely tune.
Peter Sam had steamed all night to bring Duncan his wagon. But as he approached the junction, a low branch knocked his whistle off! This meant he couldn't work 'till he got a new whistle.
"Bother!" groaned Peter Sam. "I can't run on the tracks without my whistle. It wouldn't be safe!"
Duncan agreed with him.
"That's right Peter Sam." he said. "An engine isn't an engine without an whistle!" And just to prove it, he whistled loudly.
The rest of the engines ignored him. Duncan chuffed away, crosser than ever.
"They're jealous of my fine whistle!" Duncan huffed as he steamed through the countryside. He whistled at some sheep, but they were too busy eating grass to take notice.
"Baa humbug!" said Duncan. "I need to whistle longer and louder next time."
Soon, Duncan approached a level crossing where Elizabeth, the vintage lorry truck, waited with the farmer's prized bull. This time, Duncan blew his whistle so loud and so long, that the bull was frightened.
"Stop it!" yelled Elizabeth. "You're scaring him!"
But he didn't. He kept on whistling cheerfully down the track. But what he didn't know, was that his whistle had come loose.
Then he saw Terrence plowing a field.
"He'll get the loudest, longest whistle yet!" he chortled to himself. He blew so hard, that his whistle blasted off like a rocket ship and landed out of sight!
Everyone searched for Duncan' whistle, but it was no where to be seen.
"We're stuck 'till we get you a new whistle." said his driver. "It's too dangerous."
"Leave it to me!" the headmaster said.
For the rest of the day, Duncan didn't make a sound, but the headmaster's organ did! As Duncan delivered his freight cars, the headmaster played the organ at every crossing and stop.
It alerted everyone just like a whistle would, but Duncan didn't think so.
Finally, Duncan finished delivering the last of his freight cars. He steamed slowly back to the junction, while the headmaster played another lovely tune on his organ.
At last, he arrived back at the junction, as the headmaster continued playing the organ.
Rusty laughed.
"Look." he said, "It's Duncan the musical engine!"
"Let's whistle along!" said Rheneas.
But Peter Sam, who had a brand new whistle, felt sorry for Duncan.
"He did a good job delivering the mail without a whistle!" he said.
"Do you think so?" said Duncan cheering up a bit.
"Absolutely!" said Peter Sam. "Even though an engine isn't an engine without a whistle!"
The headmaster tooted the organ, and everyone whistled along!
