I walked into the library. Trowa was there, sitting on a window seat,
reading a book. No, he was actually more looking outside than reading
the book.
I glanced outside. There were clouds on the horizon, but otherwise, it
was a typical sunny desert day. I walked over to him.
"Trowa?" I said. "Would you like to go for a walk in the gardens with
me?" /in the gardens of this artificial oasis./ Trowa looked up at me
with one brilliant emerald eye. /so beautiful.../
"Sure," he said simply. Carefully marking his page, he closed his book,
and stood gracefully up off the seat. I smiled.
"C'mon," I said, taking his hand. He followed me without any urging,
his feet making no sound on the thick carpeting. We walked through the
hallways, and out through the kitchen door into the gardens.
We walked first through the kitchen gardens, in understanding silence.
The tomato leaves were brilliant green, and the smell of sage and thyme
was in the air. A soft, cool breeze blew, as we walked into the flower
gardens.
We meandered through the gardens for minutes, hours...I don't know. It
was all in a contented haze. All of a sudden, there was a flash of
lightning, and a crack of thunder, and the sky split apart in a deluge
of rain.
"Trowa!" I shouted. "It's raining!! In the desert!! This almost never
happens!"
"Yes..." Trowa said, pulling away from me slightly. Confused I turned
to face him, only to see his face turned up towards the sky, eyes
closed, and a small smile on his face. I looked at him for a while,
just watching him in the rain.
Then, on impulse, really, I reached for him, and held his face. He
opened his eyes, and gave me a questioning look. Instead of answering,
I just kissed him, in the pouring rain. It didn't last long, only a
moment. "Quatre...?" he said, that same look in his eye. I smiled at
him, and said, "You are like a desert rain...a rare, precious, and
beautiful thing."
"Ah."
