Mystery Incorporated

Chapter 1

"What have I gotten myself into?" Mayor Janet Nettles asked herself as she stared down into smoking streets of Crystal Cove, which the latest villain Crybaby Clown terrorised.

"If you ask me, I'd say it's a mystery." A mysterious figure stepped into the light, "Who are you?" Mayyor Nettles asked, stepping away from the figure. "They call themselves Mystery Incorporated." The figure said, throwing five photos onto the desk. Mayor Nettles looked at the photos of the gang; Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley and Scooby Doo. The Mayor held the picture of Scooby Doo.

"The dog's locked up on a farm upstate you're on your own tracking down the others, my suggestion start tonight. If you want this mystery solves, bring them home." The figure said, climbing onto the window sill, "Or your run as the new mayor of Crystal Cove is going to be short lived." The figure jumped from the window, Mayor Nettles heard a loud bang outside followed by the cackles of Crybaby Clown and then a police car crashing into the fountain outside.

"Hope you had a nice time in the hole dog." The farmer snapped as he slammed the stable door shut on Scooby as he settled in the straw next to Daisy-May the cow he'd made friends with.

"What are you looking at?" He asked her, pulling a photograph out from under the straw. "I had to try to rscape ok, I need to rind my friends." Scooby said, then he climbed over the stable door and crept out of the barn.

He'd made it to the barbed wire fence and propped a stick up against it and crept under and was finally free from that horrid farmer. He ran out of the corn field and made it to the road when a black BMW came speeding down the road, luckily it stopped in time and didn't hit Scooby.

"Scooby Doo?" Mayor Nettles asked, climbing out of the car. "Uh, reh." Scooby said, suspiciously.

"Get in." The Mayor said, Scooby jumped into the car.

"Do I know you?" He asked. "I'm Janet Nettles, I'm the new Mayor of Crystal Cove, the town and I need your help Scooby, we've been attacked by an evil man baby named Crybaby Clown." She said.

"Not until I find my friends." Scooby said. "Here's everything on their whereabouts I could dig up." Mayor Nettles said, throwing a file next to Scooby.

Scooby crept into Barnstow Military School, he'd snuck in the same way he snuck out of the farm, he sniffed the ground for Shaggy's scent, and when he finally picked it up it led him to a bunker, but just outside was a row of tanks, Scooby smiled. What an entrance that would be, he thought.

He climbed into the tank and started it up, crashing into the bunker where he'd sniffed out Shaggy's scent. "Raggy!" He exclaimed, as he opened the roof of the tank and found himself inside the bunker. "Scooby Doo!" A bald Shaggy exclaimed. "Boy, am I glad to see you!"

"We're under attack boys, remember y'trainin'." The Sargent said, but the other boys in the bunker went running, "Ugh, teenagers." The Sargent sighed.

Shaggy and Scooby rolled along the road from the Military School, "Like, how did you find me?" Shaggy asked. "New Mayor, Crystal Cove's been attacked by an evil man baby clown, we need to find the others." Scooby said.

"Hey, look Scoob." Shaggy said, pointing to something in the distance. "The Mystery Machine!" They said in unison. "Fred!"

"Hello, Sir or Madam, can you tell me if Brad Chiles or Judy Reeves lives here?"

The door slammed in his face. Fred, who had left Crystal Cove handsome and clean, was now ragged and dirty, his hair had grown to his shoulders and he'd grown a beard which was nearly reaching his pelvis.

He went along to the next house, looking for his parents. "Fred!" Shaggy and Scooby exclaimed, jumping into his arms. "Shaggy? Scooby?" He asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Like, we're here to find you." Shaggy said. "Why do you look like a hobo?" Scooby asked. "Do I? I hadn't noticed." Fred said, looking down at his torn clothes. "Sorry, guys I'm not coming back until I find my parents." Fred said.

"But Fred, Crystal Cove is being attacked by an evil man baby." Shaggy said. "Find somebody else." Fred said, walking away. "But Fred, he's also an evil clown." Scooby said, Fred turned around, looking at the in shock. "An evil clown man baby?" He asked. "Yes." Scooby said.

"Let's go." He said, running to the Mystery Machine, Shaggy and Scooby followed.

The mysterious figure wandered the streets of Crystal Cove, trying to avoid being spotted by Crybaby Clown, but hoping to see the Mystery Machine entering the town, and when it finally did the, the figure hid in an alley.

"This place looks deserted." Fred said, climbing out of the van. "Like, not quite!" Shaggy exclaimed, seeing a giant pink buggy speeding towards them. Fred hid under the Mystery Machine and Shaggy locked the van from the inside, keeping himself and Scooby safe.

"No fair, Crybaby Clown wants to play tag. And your it!" The mad clown exclaimed, before launching a bomb, shaped like a baby bottle towards the Mystery Machine, Fred crawled out from underneath the van as Crybaby Clown launched another bottle bomb, and then chased him down the street in the buggy.

Fred ran down the street, when he was caught in a net and dragged into an alley. The confused clown looked around for him but couldn't find him.

Fred struggled in the net then he realised something, it was his net. "Hey, I know this net." He said, still struggling in it. "You should." A deep voice said, "You built it." Then the mysterious figure appeared from the corner and cut the ropes and then Fred was freed from the net.

"Who are you?" Fred asked. "Wait a minute." He said, examining the figure and realising it wore a pair of black framed glasses, "Velma?" He asked.

"Who else were you expecting?" She asked, taking off the hat and mask. "Oh, it so good to see you Velma!" Fred exclaimed, wrapping his arms around her. "Jinkies, I think this is the most PDA you've ever shown me!" She exclaimed.

The Mystery Machine drove into the alley and Scooby and Shaggy jumped out, "Like, we'll save you Fred!" Shaggy exclaimed as he and Scooby jumped out of the Mystery Machine and ran towards Velma, but she moved out of their way and they tripped over her feet. "It's nice to see you guys too." Velma said, sarcastically. "Velma!" Shaggy and Scooby exclaimed.

"Where was this affection when we were dating?" Velma asked, as Shaggy wrapped his arms around her.

"Come on, let's go find somewhere quiet to talk." She said, the gang climbed into the Mystery Machine and drove up to Lover's Lane, which they knew would be quiet.

When they reached Lover's Lane, they sat on top of the Mystery Machine and looked down at the town, and they could see the smoke coming from the bombs Crybaby Clown had thrown and the buildings he'd attacked.

"It's been chaos since you left." Velma said. "Crybaby Clown has terrorised the town and destroyed tourism."

"I'm sorry we left you behind Velma, it wasn't personal." Fred said, Velma sighed, "Yes it was. I admit, I messed up by not telling you Angel was an original member of the previous Mystery Incorporated but leaving me hurt. In the end I realised I had to help but I couldn't do it alone, I'm not Mystery Incorporated, we all are." She said.

"But what about Angel, and Mr E?" Shaggy asked. "And Pericles?" Scooby asked. "Nobody's seen Mr E since the night Mayor Jones was arrested, Angel came to my house once, but I wouldn't talk to her. And Professor Pericles, I assumed he drowned in the cave with the piece of the planespheric disk." Velma said. Scooby sighed, "Pericles survived, I saw him, he has the dick piece." Scooby said.

"What?" The gang asked. "If Pericles gets the other four pieces." Velma began, "One mystery at a time." Fred cut off, "Pericles still needs to find the other pieces, that could take months. Right now we have to deal with Crybaby Clown, which means we still need one more thing; Daphne." Fred said confidently.

"That might be a problem," Velma said, "Nobody's seen Daphne in months, and Mr and Mrs Blake left town soon after she disappeared."

"Well somebody's got to have seen her." Fred said. "Fred, the police have looked for her, I've looked for her, nobody in town has seen her." Velma said. "Look, let's just focus on unmasking Crybaby Clown, then we can look for her." Velma said.

The gang returned to town, Velma directed Fred to the Town Hall, the las time he was there he and the gang had been arrested for breaking into the former Mayor's office.

"Thank you for coming back, kids." Mayor Nettles greeted them at the door, along with Sheriff Stone, "I'm Janet Nettles." She said. "Like, you don't know what you've gotten yourself into." Shaggy sighed, looking at the fountain which Crybaby Clown had destroyed earlier. "I think I have a pretty good idea." Mayor Nettles said, "Follow me."

The gang followed her through the hall, "The town and I are grateful for your return." She said. "Speak for yourself, supposed Mayor." Sheriff Stone said, bitterly. "Not this again, Sheriff." The Mayor sighed. "Like, is there a problem?" Shaggy asked. "In the event of a Mayoral arrest, the Sheriff, that's me, shall assume the responsibility of emergency Mayor, it's in the Sheriffing handbook." The Sheriff said. "Not it's not, I was elected by the people Bronson, that's how democracy works." Mayor Nettles said.

"Ready for what's behind this door?" She asked the gang, getting back on topic. "Like if its an all you can eat buffet, then the answer from my stomach is a big fat yes!" Shaggy exclaimed, Scooby licked his lips, they ran into the room behind the doors, but to their disappointment, there was no buffet, only a crowd of grown-ups, among them Shaggy's parents.

"Norville, what are you and Scooby doing out of prison and the poun- I mean military school and the farm?" Mrs Rogers asked. "Mom and Dad, like they let me out early and they made me into a general, and like Scooby Doo is here with me under cover so we can save the town!" Shaggy exclaimed.

"There they are, here to save us from Crybaby Clown, three cheers for Mystery Incorporated!" A man exclaimed. "Is the town cheering for us?" Scooby asked. "They hate us until they need us, typical adults." Velma said. The town continued cheering, until there was a screeching at the back of the room and Crybaby Clown stood and the back.

"You all know me, you all know how I earn a living. I'm a bad clown. Stopping me ain't gonna be easy." He smiled. "This Crybaby Clown, will swallow your town whole, you want your tourism back, you gotta pay me, five million dollars." He said. "For that, you get the pacifier, the rattle, the whole darn clown, so what's it gonna be, me or Mystery Incorporated?" He evil clown asked.

"So long Mystery goofs." Sheriff said, taking off his hat and holding it to his chest, Mayor Nettles elbowed him.

"Hold on clown, this is our town." Scooby said. "That's right and we don't need money to protect it." Shaggy said, proudly. "Freddie, I think its trapping time." Velma said. "Right Velma!" Fred exclaimed, "I know the perfect…the perfect…oh no, my trapping knowledge it's gone, my mind is empty." Fred said.

"Waa waa, so tragic, oh well I offered. Times up Crystal Cove." Crybaby Clown said, the doors closed, and the lights went out, everyone began to panic.

"Hurry to the doors!" Fred exclaimed, everyone ran to the doors but Crybaby Clown jumped in front of them, "No exit here." He said, pointing to the ceiling. "Is that-" Shaggy began. "A dirty diaper bomb, this baby needs changing." Crybaby Clown laughed.

Everyone ran out of the town hall in time, just as the bomb went off. "Way to go, supposed Mayor." Sheriff mocked.

"Why didn't I know what to do? It's like I had some sort of trap related amnesia." Fred said. "It's not just you, Fred. I've studied Crybaby Clown for weeks but I can't find a single pattern." Velma said. "Shaggy, Scooby, what about you guys?" Velma asked. "I don't feel different." Shaggy said, dusting himself off, "Business is usual." Scooby added.

"I think I know what's wrong." Fred said, slumping onto the sidewalk. "Like, what is it Fredster?" Shaggy asked. "It's Daphne." Fred said, "It's always been the five of us, but without Daphne, we can't function." Fred said. "Fred, we're going to have to try to work without her." Velma said, "She hasn't been seen in months."

"I made a terrible mistake, I never should have left her." Fred said.
