"Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!" Danny Williams came down the stairs dressed as Santa Claus, bells jingling merrily.
"Look, Matt, it's Santa Claus!" Danny's husband, partner, and soulmate, Steve McGarrett, was holding their infant son. Steve pointed at Danny. Matt promptly burst into tears.
"Oh, hey, hey, hey, it's okay, it's just me," Danny soothed, hurrying over to the boy. Matt just cried harder. "Here, let me take him."
Steve handed Matt over. Usually, being held by Danny would soothe the infant immediately, but this time Matt panicked and shifted into his dragon form, sharp claws scrabbling at Danny's Santa suit.
"Ow, hey!" Danny lost his grip and Matt darted away, climbing up the Christmas tree and hiding among its branches.
"Great, now what are we going to do?" Steve asked.
"Get him out of there!"
"How?"
"I don't know, Steve, you figure it out!"
Steve tentatively reached for Matt, but Matt hissed and swiped at him, barely missing Steve's hand. "No dice. You try."
"Me trying was what got us here!"
"Let me try," Danny's daughter, Grace, spoke up. Grace was almost as good as Danny at calming Matt down. Making soothing noises, she gently coaxed Matt out from under the branches and cuddled him to her chest. "There, see, everything's okay, it's just Danno." Matt hissed at "Santa".
Danny pulled down his beard and took off his hat. "See, just me, nothing to be scared of."
Matt reached out a paw and patted at Danny's face. "Hey, watch the claws!"
Grace passed Matt to Danny. This time, the boy didn't freak. Danny stroked him and murmured at him until he turned back into a human and buried his face in Danny's shoulder. "Well, that went well," Danny said drily.
"Yeah," Steve said, looking mournful. "I think we need a new tradition."
