Prompt: Imagine your OTP shoveling snow. Person A is doing all the work while Person B keeps trying to start a snowball fight.
I'm Mayina trash and I wanted to write a fluffy thing, so a fluffy Mayina oneshot is what you get. Enjoy!
Oh, yeah. This was a great vacation.
Maya put the shovel down and tried to catch her breath. She and Regina were spending what time off they had traveling together, and for some reason Regina had insisted that they stop by Hazakura Temple. It brought back bad memories for her to just be there and she couldn't cross Dusky Bridge without wanting to puke, but Regina didn't know about all that had happened there and she intended to keep it that way. Bikini was happy to have them and Iris was there to keep them company, so it worked out. They didn't have to worry about anything or anyone else.
However, their quiet lifestyle had its drawbacks. Such as snow. It fell a lot in that area, which was to be expected, and though they had snowmobiles, it tended to pile up in doorways where they was nothing to do but shovel it. Bikini and Iris usually handled it themselves, but the senior nun was getting older and Maya and Regina had volunteered to give her a break. Well, Maya volunteered. Regina just kind of went with it, but that was part of what was so endearing about her. Of course, even that had its limits.
Iris had opted to take the duty of clearing the snow away from Dusky Bridge and the Inner Temple, knowing Maya's reluctance to get near either place, which left her and Regina to handle clearing the snow out of the gates and from various doorways. That didn't mean that they were working equally, however.
Maya worked. Regina played with Regent. And it would have been cute, except they had an extra shovel.
Still, she tried not to get annoyed. Regina had been working hard, helping Moe take over for her father (a feat that Maya had yet to see accomplished) and fending off the romantic advances of Max and Trilo/Ben (something she had seen her girlfriend do magnificently), and if she couldn't handle a little physical labor, how was she supposed to wear the title of Master of Kurain honorably? Pearly would tell her that she deserved the title no matter what and likely would slap anyone that said otherwise, but her cousin wasn't there. She was back in the city with Nick, and they'd better not be solving cases without her! Maya decided to call and remind them of that fact later.
Regent jumped into a pile of snow (that she had just shoveled) and Regina giggled, brushing the powder off her clothes. She looked impeccable as always - practically sparkling, though that was nothing new - and it was when Maya was caught off-guard staring at her that Regina threw a snowball.
"Hey! I just shoveled that!" She stuck her shovel in the snow.
"You're taking too long!"
"It'd go faster if you helped!"
Regina's response was to throw another snowball at her, this one hitting Maya right in the face.
"Oh, so that's how you want this to go?!" And so the war commenced.
Snowballs were thrown from both sides as Regent ran back and forth between them. Regina was laughing the entire time - a sound Maya loved hearing - and soon she was as well. She couldn't help it - her girlfriend was contagious in everything she did, and it was one of the things Maya loved about her.
When the war had subsided and Iris found them, they were lying in the snow pile that Maya had shoveled, holding hands and breathing hard from their skirmish, Regent curled around them as their laughter winded down and they were left with stars in their eyes and smiles never leaving either of their faces.
