Hot and Cold
"Has your latest conquest let you down?" Zoe's words hit Max like a bullet. Surely she didn't mean what she just said?
Max decided to not talk to her, it was obvious that she did not want to talk to him.
"You okay Max?" Louise asked as he walked into reception, waiting for a patient to take somewhere.
He nodded. "Yeah, just someone who I thought I loved doesn't love me anymore." He smiled sadly.
Louise was slightly confused by this, but didn't comment on it.
"What's up with you? You're like a sad puppy!" Robyn elbowed her brother in the ribs a while later.
"It's nothing." He snapped.
"Ooh, touchy touchy!" she teased.
"Just leave it, will you?" he asked, annoyed at his nosey sister.
"Sorry." She apologized.
"You're right, I am touchy today... It's nothing, I promise." He answered.
A few hours later…
Max's shift was over, he was still mulling over Zoe's words. He didn't believe for a second that she meant it.
He decided to walk to her apartment, try and make amends, besides, it wasn't far.
Max got to Zoe's house and rang the doorbell.
Zoe sighed. Who wanted to bother her now? She was tired, irritable, and pissed off. She regretted what she'd said to Max, she hadn't meant it.
She opened her front door, and was shocked to see Max standing there.
"What are you doing here?" she asked coldly.
"Er…" Max wrung his hands. He hadn't worked out what to say.
"Can I just… talk to you? Please?" he begged her.
"Fine." She stepped aside to let him in, she knew he wouldn't stop pestering her if she didn't.
He walked into her living room, and she followed him.
"So?" she enquired.
"About earlier… did you truly mean it? That nurse wasn't one of my "conquests", she's a mate of Robyn's."
"Well, I'm inclined to think differently since I caught you snogging the face off one in our cupboard" she hissed.
"You consider it our cupboard?" he asked, smiling slightly.
"Hmm. Listen, I am sick and tired of you blowing hot and cold with me. One minute you turn up at Dylan's with which was actually quite a sweet gift, then I realize that I'm in love with you, go to tell you my feelings then I catch you in a clinch with someone else? Really?" by now Zoe was crying, her makeup running, tears falling down her face.
"Zo… I'm sorry." Max admitted, he hated seeing the person he loved the most in the world breaking down.
He pulled her close and she snuggled into him, too tired, both physically and emotionally tired to resist.
"I miss you, Max." Zoe said, looking up at him.
"I miss you too, Zoe." He replied, kissing the top of her head softly.
She turned her head up towards him, and brought her eyes to his.
"I love you, Max Walker." she told him.
"I love you too, Zoe Hanna." Max answered, then kissed her gently on the lips.
Their kiss became more passionate, more full of need.
"Shall we take this upstairs?" Zoe asked, a cheeky smile on her face.
"Why didn't you ask me before?" Max enquired, then picked her up, bridal style.
She squealed, but decided not to wriggle about lest she fell.
"I enjoyed that." Zoe grinned a while later.
"I'm glad" Max said, pulling her close.
"What I didn't enjoy was you carrying me up here, I could have fell!" she thumped him gently on the chest.
"You enjoyed what came afterwards though, didn't you?" Max teased.
"Haven't I already mentioned that?" she smiled, closing her eyes.
"Zoe, I'm glad that I came round. So, are we a proper couple now?" he asked.
"If you like… No, I'd like, in fact, love it, too. And I love you." Zoe muttered.
Max grinned and gave her a kiss. "I love you too."
