If you had told Bonnie a year ago that she would be in a relationship with the youngest male original, she would have given you the biggest aneurysm she could have conjured up. There was no way in hell Bonnie would've dated a vampire especially an original vampire. Even if you asked everyone who knew Bonnie they would have agreed, vampires weren't exactly the favorite beings.
Bonnie and Kol hadn't met under the best circumstances, Bonnie had helped Ester to try to kill the originals and Kol had attempted to kill her when she was helping Shane and her friends to find the cure.
Though it was because of the cure that brought the unsuspected pair closer together. After Kol tried to kill Bonnie and failed, he approached her a few hours later and told her everything he knew about Silas and the consequences of raising him. Bonnie could tell that Kol was scared of Silas and it was his fear that made Bonnie decided to take Kol's side, though it did take Bonnie a while to trust the original since she didn't understand why he couldn't have just spoken to her in the first place instead of trying to kill her.
... Though Kol had always been one to act first and think later, like when he first kissed the Bennett witch, she had given him an aneurysm. Apparently it was not appropriate to kiss her in front his family and her shocked friends.
Oh how Damon got a laugh out of the whole situation, which lead him to also receiving an aneurysm.
