Author's Note: Idea I had that I wanted to do. Jaden and the gang are not in this story, also all monsters are humanized and Darkners are Duel Spirits/Duel Monster Cards. Will also be using some modern day cards, but the most current Extra Deck Summoning Ability is Fusion. Now here's this.
In a small quiet house on the outskirts of Domino City, a young teenage boy who wore his neck length brown hair so that its bangs shadowed over his eyes was sleeping peacefully on his bed, until his alarm clock blared him awake. Pressing the snooze button on his alarm, the boy then looked across the bedroom to an empty bed. His brother's bed, Asriel. Ever since he got into duel academy, he's been too focused on studying to visit, heck not even call.
The boy, who's name was Kris, drew his attention to a calendar on the wall facing the end of his bed. All but a few boxes were crossed out to signify a passed day. The square signifying today was circled with the words 'Duel Academy Exams Today' in the circle.
As if a light bulb clicked in Kris' head, he jumped out of his bed, ran to the dresser and changed from his pajamas into a green shirt with a yellow line across the middle, brown pants held up with a black belt, and black running shoes. He then took a deck case of Duel Monster cards from the top of the dresser and attached it to his belt, and turned around to grab a backpack containing an original model duel disk.
He then proceeded to run down the stairs to his living room were a white haired woman wearing a purple dress and violet jacket was currently making breakfast for the young boy. This is Kris' step mother, Toriel. Kris was adopted into this family at a very young age. No one knew his real parents or were he came from, but still, she refused to let a young child like Kris without a family. Back to the present, Toriel then turned, glasses seen adorning her face.
"Why good morning Kris," she replies.
"Hey mom," he replies excitedly.
"My you sure are happy today."
"Why wouldn't I be? Today's the Duel Academy entrance exams. If I pass, I can go to the same school as Asriel does. I won't be so far from him anymore."
"R-Right…" Toriel says, a slight hesitancy in her voice. "Kris, just so you know, sometimes everything doesn't go the way you want in life."
"What do you mean?"
"What I'm saying is, don't feel upset if you don't spend that much time with Asriel. He is older now and he is always caught up in his studies. Just don't bother him too much."
"Okay…" Kris responds.
After eating breakfast, Kris then looks at a clock on the wall, seeing it was currently 9:06. The exams start at 9:30.
"Oh no! I'm gonna be late!" Kris exclaimed, grabbing his backpack and running out the door. Toriel just watched as another of her sons went on his way to become a duelist. She then chuckled as she prepared to head to her job at Domino City's school.
Kris proceeded running through Domino City's streets. "Alright, I've got my deck, I've got my disk, and I've got about 2 minutes to get to the entrance exam before they start. Well, good news is since I'm not enrolled, so they can't put me in detention for being late."
Still running faster than ever, he almost didn't have time to stop in front of a certain man with spiky black hair with golden strands in it.
"S-Sorry sir. I was trying to get to the duel academy entrance exams!"
"No worries," the man said. Kris then proceeded to continue running.
As he did, he did a sudden stop as to wonder how that man looked familiar, but put it into the back of his mind and continue running. Meanwhile this man watched Kris, thinking in his head, "That kid is going to go far as a duelist, I know it."
At the entrance exams, a young boy, with orange hair and wearing a orange and yellow striped shirt and black pants, was currently dueling a proctor.
"Oh no! I need to turn this around and soon!" He thought as one of his monsters was destroyed.
Outside the Kaiba Dome, which is were the exam was taking place, a few employees were awaiting at a desk.
"Alright, that's probably it," said a man in a business suit. "Mark all the no shows, 'no shows'."
"WAIT!" came a voice form over the railing. "I'm not a no show!"
Kris was then revealed climbing over the railing, and plopping down onto the pavement. "Count Kris Dreemurr as present!"
Back inside we see the young boy from earlier, who just nearly passed his duel, sitting in the stands watching a young teenage girl with auburn hair dueling against a proctor. Currently she has "Bravo, Fighter Fur Hire" and a set card on her field while her proctor has 2 monsters currently on his field.

"Alright newbie," said the proctor. "You've got two monsters staring you down, do you A: give up?, B: throw in the towel?, or C: cry to mommy?"
"I'll choose D: None of the above!" The girl exclaimed, playing her trap card, "Ring of Destruction".
"A trap?!"
"Yep! And thanks to ring of destruction, by destroying Bravo I deal damage to both of us equal to its attack points!"
Proctor's LP: 0
? LP: 200
"Not bad applicant. Welcome to the academy."
"Thanks! I promise to become even better!"
Meanwhile, up in the stands, a dark skinned teenage girl with long hair that shaded her eyes looked on in arrogance. She was currently wearing the academy's Obelisk blue blazer. Some of her cronies doing the same.
"That was some show, right Susie?"
"Hmph! Yeah right, we went to prep school, we already have what it takes to be here. Soon all will know who's boss!"
Back with the young boy, Kris was standing behind him, just catching the end of the girl's duel. "Wow, talk about a clever finish." This comment startled the young boy in front of him. "Whoops! Sorry about that, what's your name?"
"Michael Kyles, though most people call my MK for short." (AN: yes, he is monster kid)
"Cool! I'm Kris Dreemurr!"
"Dreemurr? Like Asriel Dreemurr?!"
"Yep! He's my brother."
"Wow, really?!" came the voice of the girl from the exam as she had walked up to them. "Oh, sorry. My name's Noelle."
"I heard you got the highest score on the written exam," MK states.
"Oh, it's not much, really!"
"Well, I wonder when I'm gonna get called up," Kris wonders aloud.
"Wait, you haven't dueled yet?" Noelle asks.
"No, I just got here."
"I think there might be a problem, I'm pretty sure her duel was gonna be the last one today," MK explains.
"What?! No way!"
Up in the judges booth, a man that wears too much makeup for his own good and has a blue blazer on. A man then walked up to him.
"Excuse me, Mr. Crowler."
"Did you just call me Mr.?"
"Oh! Sorry, I'm new here Mrs."
"I've earned the title of Dr. thank you very much! Now what is it?"
"A new examiner has just shown up for his practical exam."
"Well, you'll just have to tell him that they'll have to come again next year."
"Aw, come on Crowler, we still have time for one more duel. The kid was just a little late."
"Late is rude!"
Just then, Crowler's phone rang. Answering it he found out it was the chancellor of the school, Shepherd.
"Hello Crowler, just checking in to see how things are going and that you're giving everyone a fair shot. We don't want a repeat of last year were you cut a third of our applicants for some ridiculous reason. What was it again, calling you Mr. or Mrs. Just make sure everyone has a fair shot."
Infuriated, Crowler reluctantly agreed, and hung up."Furry chinned windbag," he thought. "Doesn't he know this school is filled with enough losers with no talent? But he's the boss."
"Excuse me gentlemen, I'll be off," he said getting up.
"But which proctor's gonna duel him? And what exam deck should we use?"
"Leave that to me."
Up on the upper floor, a white haired boy wearing a senior Obelisk blue blazer and a brown haired girl wearing the female's variant were watching the entrance duels. The boy then began to walk away.
"Where are you going Asriel?" asked the girl.
"I'm leaving, obviously," Asriel replies. "There's no point in staying here Frisk."
As they were about to leave, one final announcement caught their attention, Asriel's mostly.
"Kris Dreemurr, please report to exam field 4."
One thought entered the boy's mind. "Kris?"
Once Kris heard that announcement, he began running to his field. "Wish me luck guys!"
"Though it appears he's going to need it," comments Noelle, as Crowler was seen to be Kris' proctor.
"Alright, test time!" exclaimed the doctor. "So you're a Dreemurr I heard. Your brother is quite the edition to our academy, but if you think that you're as good as he is, then I'm here to prove you wrong!"
"I'll take on any challenge you throw at me!" Kris yells back. "Now bring it!"
"LETS DUEL!"
Kris vs Crowler
Kris LP: 4000
Crowler LP: 4000
"You go first," Crowler states as they draw their starting hand.
"Okay, here it goes." Kris draws a card, looks at his hand, and forms a strategy. "Alright, first I'll set a monster face-down, then I'll set a card. Then I'll end my turn with that."
"That's it? Very well, it's my turn! I draw!" Crowler then looks at his hand, scheming greatly as a plan came to mind. "Since I'll be using my own personal deck, beating him will be a walk in the park," he thought to himself. "Alright, first I play the spell card "Confiscation". By paying 1000 life points, I can look at your hand and send one of your cards to the graveyard!"
Crowler LP: 3000
"Huh?" Kris' cards then glowed as they were revealed to Crowler.
"Hmm, I see you have some... interesting cards in your hand. But I suppose being related to a pro can have its benefits. Now then, I send "Monster Reborn" to the graveyard!"
Kris then discarded the spell card away into the graveyard slot on his duel disk as Crowler made another play.
"Next I'll set 2 cards and the play the spell "Heavy Storm"! Now all spell and trap cards on the field are destroyed!"
"What? But that'll destroy your set cards too, won't it?"
"It will, as that was the intent." The storm then destroyed the two face down cards and Kris' face down which was a trap known as…
""Dark Renewal"?" Crowler thought shocked. "Good thing I destroyed that or that might have caused an issue." He then spoke about the two traps that were destroyed on his field. "My trap cards "Statue of the Wicked" each let me special summon a "Wicked Token" for when it's destroyed."
The two tokens then appeared on his field.
(x2) Wicked Token
"And now I'll tribute these two tokens to summon forth "Ancient Gear Golem"!"
A giant, rusted, mechanical behemoth then arose to the field, one glowing eye looking down at Kris.
Ancient Gear Golem: LV: 8 / 3000 ATK / 3000 DEF
Up in the stands, everyone had started to grow suspicious of this entrance exam.
"There's no possible way that cards like "Heavy Storm" and that Golem should be in an entrance exam deck," Noelle states.
"You mean this was rigged?" MK questions.
With Susie and her gang of Obelisks, she only looked on, awaiting to see their dorm's leader to mop the floor with this kid.
Up on the balcony, Frisk and Asriel were watching.
"Wow, what a jerk using his own deck against a kid!" Frisk says angrily.
"Don't worry," Asriel reassures. "My brother may be a kid, but he's got the mind of a strategist."
"So what do you say to that?"
"I say bring it!"
"Hmph! Your funeral for any chance of getting into the academy kid! Golem, attack with mechanized melee!"
The giant then attacked the face down monster, which flipped to reveal a piper of sorts with a flute.
Apprentice Piper: LV: 2 / 200 ATK / 1800 DEF
The giant then destroyed the piper. "Oh and in case you thought your life points are safe, think again! My monster deals piercing battle damage!"
Kris LP: 2800
"So do you give up?" Crowler asks.
Kris looked up with a determined smile. "I ain't done yet teach! Matter of fact, my "Apprentice Piper has an ability itself. It special summons a monster from my hand when it's destroyed, and I choose "Lemon Magician Girl"!"
A girl wearing a yellow magician outfit appeared onto the field.
Lemon Magician Girl: LV: 2 / 800 ATK / 600 DEF
"So how was that?"
"Not bad, but unfortunately, your monster stands no chance against my Gear Golem."
"Don't count her out yet teach, just you wait."
"Fine. I end my turn."
"My turn then! I draw! And first I'll summon "Apple Magician Girl"!"
Like Lemon Magician Girl, Apple wore a magician costume, but it was red.
Apple Magician Girl: LV: 3 / 1200 ATK / 800 DEF
"But she won't be around for long as I use Lemon's ability! Once per turn, by tributing another "Magician Girl", I can add a Spellcaster from my deck strait to my hand!" Kris said as Lemon raised her wand, Apple disappearing soon after. A card slotted out of Kris' deck, him then taking it and adding it to his hand.
"And next I activate the spell "Double Summon"! As it says, I can Normal Summon for a second time this turn, and with that magic, I'll tribute my Lemon Magician Girl to summon my deck's ace monster, "Dark Mage Ralsei"!"
A humanoid goat whose fur was extremely shaded to the point it appeared black, and wore a green wizard hat that had horns poking out of the top. It also wore a green cloak with a black heart in the center and had a pink scarf around its neck as well as green spectacles on its face.
Dark Mage Ralsei: LV: 6 / 2500 ATK / 1600 DEF
"Oh! Impressive! I'll admit I've never heard or seen that monster before, so it must be quite the spectacle to see an extremely rare card. But even so, its attack points are far too short."
"Oh that won't be a problem, once I activate Ralsei's ability! Once per turn, by discarding a card from my hand, I can send one monster you control back to your hand!" Kris explains discarding a card.
"What?! No way!"
"Yes way! Now Ralsei! Cast Pacification on that Golem!"
Ralsei seemed to nod as his hands glowed a blue light, which was then thrown at the Golem. It began to, in its own way, fall asleep as a bright light enveloped it as it returned to Crowler's hand.
"No way, it was my very best card."
"Now we've got this duel in the bag!"
"Don't get so cocky, by next turn I may resummon my Golem!"
"... As much fun as that would be, I'm afraid there won't be a next turn."
"What, why? If your monster attacks I'll still have life points left!"
"That would be true, if I didn't have this nifty little equip spell hear, I activate "Bound Wand"!"
A staff with a red gemstone and a metal with a skull face on it that connected the gem to the wood of the staff appeared before Ralsei as he grabbed ahold of it.
Dark Mage Ralsei: 3100 ATK
"With it, Ralsei gains attack points equal to his level x100!"
"No way!"
"Yes way! Now Ralsei, attack with Dark Magic Strike!"
Ralsei then used the staff as an output were he attacked Crowler directly.
Crowler LP: 0
"Aw, yeah!" Kris said as both him and Ralsei pumped their fists in the air as the monster faded away with the holograms. "I'm in!"
Susie looked on in shock at how easily Kris beat her dorm teacher, and on their second turn no less!
"How did that punk beat Crowler! It's impossible! He's an insect!"
Up on the balcony, Frisk have a sigh of relief while Asriel gave a knowing smile.
"Told you my brother's good."
"I'll say, he beat Crowler on his second turn. Using every card in his hand to win."
"Like I said, he may seem like a kid, but he's a good strategist," Asriel said, walking away from the balcony.
"Hmm… maybe I should duel him sometime."
"Holy Egyptian Gods, you won?!" MK exclaimed as Kris walked back up the stairs.
"And in 2 turns no less. I must admit I'm impressed," Noelle added.
"Eh, it was nothing really," Kris says. "I just had the good strategy laid out in my cards, and now that I'm in the academy, I'm gonna study and train hard until me and Ralsei are as good as my brother."
"And with how well you beat Crowler, I wouldn't be surprised if you got into Obelisk blue, if not Ra yellow!" Noelle comments.
Meanwhile, Crowler was not happy. "That kid defeated me? I'll get him back extra for this."
