Walk in the Park

By LTP-girl

Cutter took Lupo's hand in his, as they dawdled through the autumn park, their feet crunching through the fallen leaves. Lupo held tightly onto Otto's leash as they past another couple walking a black lab stopping to sniff its surroundings.

Cutter slid his other hand into his jeans pocket. He thought how nice it was to have someone to wake up next to. To share a latte with. To share one's dreams with.

Lupo gazed on in the distance, his expression turning wistful as he watched children playing in a pile of raked leaves. He reflected back on the day he and Mike had taken his niece and nephew to the zoo, and what a good time they all had. He had to hand it to the guy, he was great with kids. "Say... Mike, you ever thought of having one?"

"Having one what?" Cutter's eyes widened, baffled as to what Lupo was alluding to.

"A kid."

Cutter chuckled to himself, amused by his boyfriend's ludicrous suggestion. "Us?" he questioned in disbelief, humour in his voice. "Oh yeah, Connie could be our surrogate."

He stared down at his feet, slightly disheartened by Cutter's sceptical response.

Cutter's smile disappeared, realizing Lupo's discouragement. "Oh... y-you were being serious." He paused for a moment. "Do you even realize how expensive it is to raise a family these days?"

Lupo slid his hands into his pockets, and hunched over in the cold. "Yeah, I know, we have to be practical. Decisions like these are not to be taken lightly." He glanced up at his partner once again with a half smile, his eyes twinkling at the thought of Mike being a parent. "Still it's a nice thought."

Mike sighed with exasperation, a little weary of Lupo's rose coloured aspirations. "Distant dreams, Detective, distant dreams."

The end.
