Monk saw Natalie was crying. She had been a bit emotional lately. He realized she'd been dealing with a lot. He walked over to her and sat down next to her.
"Natalie," he asked
"I'm sorry," she said, "I've just been really emotional lately"
"I could tell. Do you want to tell me what's up?"
"Do I want to? Yes I want to but I don't know that I should"
"Come on," he said, "it can't be as bad as all that"
"It is as bad as all that," she said, "you've been an amazing friend to me and I've been a sucky friend to you"
"What? No you haven't. Why would you think that?"
"Well… do you remember the opportunity you had?"
"That's a little vague?"
"The gift you were given. The chance to go back in time and change one thing"
"Oh… yeah so?"
"Do you know what the first thought I was thinking was when that angel told you that you could go back in time and change one thing?"
"Oh GOD! Why do I have a feeling you're going to tell me"
"I was thinking "that's wonderful… now you could save Mitch"
"Oh my GOD," Monk said, "how in the world does that make you a bad friend"
"How could I be so selfish as to put my needs ahead of your needs"
"Natalie I think you're confusing selfish with normal," Monk told her.
"So what do you think," Natalie asked
"Honestly," Monk said, "I don't know yet. I wish I knew but I don't know yet"
"Well there's one thing I do know," Natalie said
"Actually there's a lot you know," Monk corrected
Natalie smiled.
"What I know is that no matter what I'm grateful to have you as a friend… I'm grateful you're in my life and I love you as a friend"
"Thank you Natalie," Monk told her, "and that's unconditional right?"
"Of course"
Monk snapped his fingers.
"That's it," he whispered
Natalie just hugged him and said "thank you for the gift of friendship"
