Buzz leaned back against the slim tree, resting his hands behind him and closing his eyes. He breathed in the morning air, trying to tell himself that he was not nervous. No matter how often he repeated the phrase, the butterflies remained. He had tried to quiet them by busying himself in the barn, where several people were putting up the decorations, only to be affectionately told to "scram" by Mr. Potanski.

He headed to the farm house kitchen, knowing that Mrs. Potanski was bustling around with other women, preparing all of the food. "Buzz! Don't you dare touch that platter! You don't want to get your nice suit dirty! It's your wedding day, for heaven's sake. Go on, shoo!" She had pushed him out of the kitchen and he had to laugh.

Friends and family were everywhere, wishing him well. His commanding officer and team mates from Star Command had received special permission to attend. Mira had caught him earlier, scrutinizing his outfit. He was dressed in a white suit and shoes, with a gray vest and yellow tie. "Looking sharp, Captain," she said with a good-natured grin. Buzz had opted for simplicity over his dress uniform. This was not a Star Command event, and he wanted nothing to indicate any separation between him and those gathered for the celebration.

"So, they ran you out, too, huh?" Buzz's mouth stretched into a smile as the voice of his soon-to-be wife reached his ears. He opened his eyes and was completely unprepared as all of his breath left his body in one giant WHOOSH.

She was clad in a strapless dress that drew Buzz's gaze to the light freckles that splashed across her shoulders. The fitted gown was simple, without lace or frill, which was just like Jessie. Her fiery hair had been expertly swept up away from her neck, and Buzz recognized Bo's handiwork. The only accessories that adorned his fiancée were long white gloves and a small bouquet of white roses nestled among green leaves. It was when he looked into her green eyes that he realized he was forgetting to breathe and he inhaled deeply.

Jessie's brows scrunched together. "What's the matter? It's the hair, isn't it? I told Bo she should have just left it plain," she fretted.

"No, Jess!" He reached out, quickly enclosing her right hand with his left. "You're…you're perfect."

Her shoulders relaxed and she shared a tender smile with him. They stood in silence, enjoying the time to take each other in. In his eyes, Jessie was the perfect embodiment of the day: fresh and bright, brimming with the expectation of the joy that was promised to come.

A far off voice reached their ears and Jessie chuckled. "Woody's nervous about giving me away and being your best man. I think he's afraid he's going to get his duties mixed up."

Buzz laughed, "I have an idea that might help that."

"Oh, yeah? Care to fill me in?" she raised an eyebrow.

He gave her hand a squeeze, "We're going to be in this life together, aren't we?"

She nodded, curious where he was going with the question.

"Then I think we should start things that way. Come on." Woody and Bo were found and the change of plans was met with approval.

A little less than an hour later, Buzz and Jessie watched from outside the barn doors as Woody and Bo walked down the aisle hand-in-hand. Jessie looked at Buzz, "You sure you know what you're in for?"

He smiled, taking her right hand and kissing the back of it. He linked her arm in his, resting his hand over top of hers. "Absolutely."

Surrounded by family and friends, they took the first step into a new life, together.
