The Choice

Rain as I entered,

Matching my mood:

Somber.

Never knowing

That there

My life would change.

His eyes mesmerized me

As I started intently.

He caused my heart to

race

or

stop.

This feeling,

What could it mean?

True love.

But love had a price,

(doesn't it always?)

Love could cost me my

Life.

Yet I didn't care.

He was

mine.

Change happened,

Always as inevitable as could be.

He left.

It was no longer safe.

I died inside.

This price was worse than death.

I built myself back up

With another's friendship.

He mended my heart.

Until my love came back

For me.

Happy was I

again.

I tried to rush

Into things not meant to be rushed into.

Until I began to realize

The consequences.

A choice

Tore me in two.

Love for my first love

or

Love for my heart mender.

Life came with one,

Death with another.

As my lips touched both,

My choice was made.

My wedding ring

Weighing me down with

Despair for my friend,

But hope for the future.

For the future I was headed,

But what would meet me there?

Both sides of our

bargain

were fulfilled.

My diamond ring reflecting

Our promises.

Finally happiness came,

And we thought

We had nothing to fear.

A great and terrible surprise

Came upon us.

This surprise risked my life

Even more than my

First love's bloodlust.

But I endured it, and it became mine.

And my final end of the bargain

Was complete.

Our looming fears soon became

Nothing.

Happiness was ours.

Love was ours.

There in our

Perfect little piece

of

Forever.
