I plan on doing a collection of small stories and moments between Phillip and Laney from Harvest Moon.

Disclaimer: I do not own Natsume, Marvelous, Harvest Moon and the characters.

Kids

"Do you like kids, Phillip?"

Phillip stared at his girlfriend with a surprised reaction of her blunt question. It was just a normal conversation about work and concern of others until she brought that question up. Well, it was an interesting topic to start with at their small date in the cafe today, and it wasn't even noon yet.

"Well?"

The male farmer just chuckled nervously. In all honesty, he wasn't ready for parenthood. Besides, they have been only dating for a half of the year. He did plan on proposing her soon, but not this soon! The red-haired lover could only provide so much for their future together, but it wasn't enough. What if they end up poor? What if the kids go hungry? What if Laney ends up hating him and decides to leave him for a better man? The poor kids...!

"Hey, I know you're thinking that I would do something stupid to you with irrational thinking!" Laney yelled at him, offended. "Earth to Phillip! You there?"

The blond waitress snapped her fingers in front of her boyfriend's face, getting the boy's focus back again.

"Wha- where?"

She only gave a soft smile at her boyfriend's reaction. Laney knew Phillip was nervous about having kids, and she just giggled. He was thinking too much on the question.

"I was just asking if you like kids in general, Phillip," the Bluebell maiden explained. "I'm not asking you to marry and raise a family with me, silly." Laney only chuckled at the sight of her boyfriend gawking and slapping himself on the forehead.

"Oh..." he muttered with a sheepish and embarrassed smile. "Yeah... I do like kids... though, that depends on their personality and attitude."

"That's true," Laney agreed with a nod at that consideration. "I heard from Lillian that Dirk had a small troublemaker back in his hometown."

"Yeah... that's why it's important to discipline your kid while also being considerate of their feelings," the red-haired male explained. "You can't be too strict, but you can't spoil them too much either."

Phillip noticed Laney smiling at him. Much more happier and full of cheer. Bless his calming heart to see his girlfriend's smile be as radiant as the Harvest Goddess... scratch that. To be much more serene than the goddess herself.

"What are you smiling about?" Phillip asked with curiosity, smiling back with an eyebrow raised.

"Oh, it's nothing much..." Laney began with her soft giggle of hers. "I just think you'd be a great father someday." Laney's heart melted in awe when she saw her boyfriend all flustered and red while trying to cover his face with his arm and sleeve. "So... like I said, don't worry about the future with kids..." Her arm trailed towards his, her fingers slowly brushing up from his knuckles to the back of his ear while her leg intertwined with his. "At least... not yet," she whispered to him.

By the end of the day, Phillip was confident that he would be able to raise a good family with his love in the future. Lots and Lots of kids would not be enough.
