Second Best
Ororo sighed. Another day. Another heart-breaking, agonizing day. Another sad day when you wake up and the first thing that pops into your head is that your husband and the father of your son is in love with another a woman.
Logan did love her; he truly did. It was also a fact, though, that he loved Jean, and loved her more. Jean came back from the 'dead' before Scott and Logan almost left Ororo. Ororo almost encouraged him to but, she found out Jeremiah was on the way and of course, he stayed.
Everyday, it hurt. Everyday, she was reminded of their connection. She was determined to live with it, though. She was madly in love with Logan ever since she saved him from Sabertooth. And she knew Logan was madly in love with Jean ever since she saw them look at each other a few days later. She instantly knew that if anything ever happened between them, she'd always be second best, and she didn't mind. At least she didn't think she would. When she and Logan got together, Jean was 'dead' and it was never an issue but she came back, and then Jeremiah was coming and Logan did the chivalrous thing.
Ororo wasn't sure if Logan cheated on her while she was pregnant and she wasn't sure if she wanted to know. Scott came back a few weeks before the baby was born and Jean was ecstatic. If anything was happening, it stopped after Scott came back; Jean and he were constantly together. Ororo also noticed a change in Logan as well. He was slightly less excited about Scott's return and he was in a lot less of a good mood, the good mood he got when Jean returned.
And then Ororo realized: Logan was her Jean. He was someone she wanted but couldn't have, not fully, because there was someone he held higher, someone he wanted more than her. It broke her heart.
