Every time he's alone
a small thought came to his head.
Every time he accidentally ate spicy things
a memory about her popped up.
Every time, when nobody's around
he tried to ignore and conclude that he didn't love her.
He never did, in love with her.
He lit his cigarette and glanced at Sougo. Suddenly, a question appeared in his mind and decided to ask. "Do you still hate me?"
"Why'd you—"
"Because I want to,"
A moment of silence.
Sougo stares at the sky. "A bit… Maybe," Sougo answered. He bet this Sougo is still thinking about his sister. "But it's no use, I can't do anything about it,"
"Hn."
He didn't love her.
He only thinks about his job.
His job is a priority.
And also, mayonnaise. He loves mayonnaise. Not a woman.
But,
Up until now
Deep inside, he realize that he have this very-little-feeling that he can't do anything about it. A small amount of regret he tried so hard to ignore.
Just why, didn't I tell her back then?
How should he know things would turned out like this?
How many times he doubt that he didn't love her, the opposite is still the fact that everyone can see.
Maybe its' a bit unfair that Hijikata heard it with his own ear about Mitsuba's feelings, while Mitsuba didn't even had the chance.
Hey Mitsuba, at least I should've let you known that I love you.

Come on, beside mayonnaise, everybody knows Hijikata loved her. He just don't want to admit it. Especially, in front of her. But everything is just too late. What's the point when she's not even here anymore? If only he told her, back then. At least, let her know with her own ears.
This is just a very-short-fanfic I wrote to try to accept Mistuba's death because until now it seems that I can't accept this fact TT_TT I must admit, I don't really watch Gintama or read the manga, but the Mitsuba arc was just too sad and why my favorite character always dies it's just too much for me. Also, I don't really want Hijikata to end up with that Kuriko girl but its Sorachi Hideaki's decision after all.
