[[Tribute to Belletrix Word Salad. ARG, SHORT. RL problems make great angst fuel, haha.]]

He snorted, clearing out his mind and heart from the previous conflictions he had been facing up until this moment. Water poured down him and his cheeks felt a few warm tears that he quickly ignored. (He could not be crying. There was nothing to cry for.) The rain was irritatingly fitting. He wanted to scream to the heavens, cuss it out, and tell it to stop making his life into some pretty, little drama. Most of all, he wanted it to stop making the mood just right to portray him as a villain.

Naruto was lying there, passed out. He had tried so hard to make his friend stay, desperate to get his friend back. What had he screamed over and over again? 'Sasuke!' It was such a lovely feeling he got. Just fun times, doing things they both enjoyed. Growing stronger, sparing. Each of them playing the role society had placed them in. Sasuke was supposed to be an emotional wreck. (Naruto saw him shine the brightest.) Naruto was the goof. (Sasuke saw him lethally serious.)

They were yin and yang. There was not a good and evil between them, but rather a completion. Sasuke completed Naruto just as Naruto filled the voids in Sasuke.

He stepped back, shying away from what he had done before he lost his nerve and came running back with the broken boy his arms, praying that Naruto would forgive him. (Somewhere down the line, before Naruto became the ally of the enemy, Sasuke supposed that he had wanted Naruto to continue being friends with him later.)

He had to leave now. End it with finality. Closure was within reach. No questions about how he felt. He was gone; nothing could stop him.

So he limped away, unwilling to say good-bye and unable to say if he would return. For the moment, he had to continue playing the card fate had dealt him. Kill Itachi and then see what card he drew next. Maybe he would get a heart, for once.
