I lay quietly, tucked beneath a overhanging slab of metal. The planet's veins pulsed a light blue, illuminating my snout rhythmically, like a heartbeat. It used to be better here. The light blue, used to be strong, deep and comforting, and the pulses were stronger. I swept my tail to the left, watching the ground crumble and drop off the overhang. It used to be stronger here as well, stronger than the finest metals and stones of earth. War had long tainted our planet. Destroying much of its beautiful features. The planet is supposedly uninhibited. All be we remain. We're not known by our larger cousins who walk upright. I looked to the sky, WAthcing the galaxies swirl, and I tested the air. I got up shakily, my watch was over, the new gaurd should be here any minute.
I loped back into camp. It's bright orange glow illuminating the dark trees, bringing warmth to a decaying world. Home. As I got closer the warmth penetrated my thick metal hide. I trotted towards the center of camp. The biggest cave sat there. I barked inside, causing a small echo to reply. A small, compared to me, metal cat crawled from the cave. My younger sibling, Ravage. My brother is very different than I. Resembling an earth panther, and I a wolf. His rust red eyes met mine. We greeted each other with a tap to each others snout. I turned to leave when something told me to tell him something urgent.
"Ravage?" I asked.
"Yeah?" he replied, questioning.
"If anything happens to me, I trust you to take my place as the royal heir" I said, meeting his gaze hard, willing him to understand.
"Nothing will happen to you, you're going to be a great leader" he said, a loving rumble starting form deep in his chest.
"Wish me luck?" I smiled wolffishly.
"I'm wishing you luck" he nodded.
I left him bye the cave entrance, trotting towards the entrance of camp. Hoping that I wasn't late for the hunt.
I was greeted by looks of dread. I approached the group trying my best to seem leader-like. I spotted my childhood friend Darklight, destined forever to be compared to his brother Lighting. Who is my betrothed mate. I painstakingly awaited the call to go hunt for the outlanders who plagued our race, and for auspices which are few and far between.
The call sounded, and off we went. Pulling into and easy run. I quickly surpassed my teammates and fell in behind Darklight. He nodded his hello and I returned it with an ear flick. I'm pretty sure I caught the scent first. I gave Draklight the signal and he passd it on. Everyone falling in line behind me, kicking it up to attack speed. We were closing in.
