Foolish Things
It was a cloudless Tuesday, and Touga was out on a date with another girl. Nanami had spent three hours curled up in front of the answering machine, listening to every message left by an infatuated schoolgirl, and then another two picking up the remaining calls to screech at each insipid twit.
"Even if onii-sama dates a hundred of you, I'm his sister! His only sister, do you understand that?! His only sister!" She slammed down the receiver.
--
Saionji and Anthy found her in the rose garden later: a tangle of thorns in her arms, and heated fury on her face. Handfuls of roses had been torn out by the roots.
Nanami saw them and glared.
"What's wrong, Nanami-san?" said Anthy, as Nanami ripped out yet another rose, leaving its violet petals strewn on the ground.
Instead of turning on Anthy, Nanami chose to ignore her. "They have no right to even touch him!" she mouthed to herself.
"Hold on," said Saionji, moving towards Nanami. "I'll put an end to this nonsense." He touched her on the shoulder with an authoritative air, but Nanami paid him no heed and punched him in the chest instead.
Still refusing to pay either of them any attention, she then rose to her feet. "They're insects!"
Nanami stormed out of the greenhouse, leaving Saionji and Anthy to stare at her retreating back.
"Saionji-sama, should we go see--"
"Forget it," said Saionji. He crossed his arms, frowning. "Some people have no idea how to control their emotions. She's foolish."
"I agree, Saionji-sama."
The smile that Anthy wore was very mild.
