One of the constant thoughts in my life was how I would survive in this day and age. Constantly on the lookout for the moment that would end my life is something that everyone does, every second of every day in this city. If you're lucky enough you avoid these moments daily, so you can continue on your journey of being a chess piece in the master game. Dickens was wrong, there was nothing 'best' of this time only the 'worst' existed in this time. My time.
You're made to conform to the ideals of society, we all are. There is a select few that start new ideals, most people worship them, as if they are some kind of higher being for having a new idea. We all have to follow the ideals of having that perfect day and the little creatures that change your life before you turn the big 3-0! Every year when you become older the contestants in the game become fewer and fewer until you have to settle for what you can get because otherwise you're not the 'ideal' person.
You have to decide from an early age, are you the one to shine the trophy's or are you the type to climb the ladder? Although the latter is almost discouraged as it would prevent you from reaching the goals that have been set out by the required time they should be done. Plus, you would have to deal with arrogant 'Kings' that rule the floor and use you as one of the minor moves in winning the game.
Being a women and living in New York wasn't easy.
