Minerva's Advice

Disclaimer: I don't own HP

Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall were in his office one evening, going through his mail, when an owl flew through the open window, dropping a letter in Minerva's lap. "That's Ceres's owl," she commented as the owl flew back out the window.

"What does your sister need from you now?" Albus teased. Minerva threw him a mock-stern look.

She opened the letter and read it. When she reached the end, she sighed in exasperation and said, "She is a complete fool."

"Why?" Albus asked, grinning in amusement, "I found her quite intelligent as a student."

"She's smart in that way," Minerva agreed, "But she's always telling me about some man that she's supposedly in love with, but has never said a single word about it to him for fear of rejection. I'm always telling her to just go up to him and say that she loves him, but she always responds that she's sure he doesn't love her back. What's life without the risk, honestly? There's so much a person could miss out on because of the silly fear of rejection."

Minerva stood, "I must remind her of my opinion on the matter. Goodbye, Albus." She sighed as she crossed the room, "So many relationships that could work out never start because of that silly fear."

Albus was speechless. Even though she had been talking about her sister, Minerva had just given a perfect example to show that Albus was a fool. He quickly stood and crossed the room as she reached for the door handle, catching her wrist. She turned, startled, to face him.

Albus said, "You're very right, Minerva," he hesitated. "I love you."

Minerva stared at him in surprise. After she processed what he had said, she noticed a peculiar feeling growing within her, something more powerful than elation. She said quietly, adding to her last remark, "And there are other relationships that could work out but never start because someone doesn't realize they're in love until it's too late."

"Is it?" he asked just as quietly.

"No," she breathed, "I love you too." She kissed him and he smiled against her lips before returning the kiss.

When they broke apart, Albus remarked, a twinkle in his eye, "You give the best advice."

"I'm pleased I do," she smiled. "I'm even more pleased you listened…even if I wasn't talking about you."

Unrealistic, really, but hey, this was one of my first MMAD stories; they're not posted in chronological order, that is to say, the order in which I wrote them.
