Identity Crisis

By Lady Serena

Hello! This is sort of a continuation of my other Legal Drug fanfic Legally Drug. I find that funny because I haven't finished it yet but I already stared working on the sequal! Silly Lady Serena! I guess I can call myself a multi-tasker then eh? Oh, plus I have a Fruits Basket Fanfic and a Naruto fanfic on the way! Anyways, on with the story! This is short, forgive me but it's just chapter 1 out of many! I think...

Kazahaya glared up at his smug roommate Rikuo and Rikuo smirked down at him. They were having an argument about side jobs. Kaza felt that since he needed the money, he had to take any side jobs Kakei gave them, while Rikuo insisted that some side jobs should be turned down.

You're being an idiot every time you accept another job without learning what it is first. I'm tired of having to save your pathetic behind!" Rikuo yelled at Kaza, his voice reaching a new volume for him.

Blushing out of both anger and embarrassment, Kaza screamed back, "No one asked you to save me!"

Normally at this point Rikuo would regain his composure and simply insult Kaza before smirking and walking away. But something inside of him snapped and any chance of calm being restored flew out the window.

"So what? We both know that you're to stubborn to ask for help! If I don't save you then who will?"

Kaza blinked in surprise before replying, "I can take care of myself! I don't need and I certainly don't want you help. You're such an arrogant jerk!"

This time it was Rikuo's turn to blink in surprise and he was about to yell at Kaza again when he noticed the tears forming in Kaza's hazel eyes. They were the same eyes Rikuo had fallen in love with the first time he saw the effeminate young man. He remembered finding him half-dead in the snow one year ago and when their eyes met he felt his frozen heart begin to thaw. Instead of responding angrily, Rikuo sighed and turned his back on Kaza.

"You're probably right. I can be an arrogant jerk sometimes. It's just that I can't help wanting to protect you. You mean the world to me."

Kaza gasped and he felt the room being to spin around him. Was this the moment he had secretly been waiting for? Was Rikuo finally about to confess him feelings for him?

Lost in his thoughts, Kaza was brought back to reality when Rikuo, also not using his head and consumed by emotions, said, "I just want to keep you safe. Is that so wrong Tsukiko?"

The warmth that had been spreading throughtout Kaza's body stopped abruptly and a blast of cold hit him straight in his shattering heart. He stared open-mouthed at a stunned Rikuo who was standing stock-still with his hand over his mouth.

"Did you just call me...Tsukiko?"

Rikuo's eyes widened and he nodded slowly. Why did he do that? Pain was clear on Kaza's face and tears poured down his soft cheeks. His hands were shaking and his eyes shone with the tears.

"I didn't mean it Kazahaya!" Rikuo yelled, staring at his silent roommate with his panic level rising.

Kazahaya looked up into Rikuo's forest green eyes. He felt so cold and half-numb. Just like the night Rikuo had rescued him. Rikuo searched Kaza's face for any emotion and was dismayed when he found none. He had sworn to protect Kazahaya's fire, but now, he had dumped a bucket of water on it. All signs of the old fun, childish, and innocent Kazahaya had vanished all because of one name from Rikuo's painful past.
