A Little Perspective

A Hollyoaks FanFiction

Ste, while engaged to Doug

:-:

Falling in love isn't like they say in fairy-tales. Not that I know a lot about fairy-tales, me – Mum and Terry weren't exactly the sit down and read me a book type. Fists were the only things they ever gave me. But this ain't no sob story.

All I'm saying is, I thought love had to be a struggle – like back with Amy. Or a fight – like with Brendan. And both times it was proper worth it, 'cause with Amy I got Leah and Lucas, and with Brendan – well I got Brendan, didn't I? And that was dead good. Good enough for me anyway. My body was used to beatings and my heart just drowned in the fact he loved me. And he did, for a minute there anyway. When it suited him.

I guess I didn't know what love could really be until Leah said the words "Daddy Doug". Leah, who had been read countless fairy-tales and in her innocence could spot a happy ending.

That's when I realised that love isn't about the battle, but about the belonging. And when Doug looked at me, Leah in his arms, I knew where I belonged.

Maybe together we can make a fairy-tale out of this soap opera.
