Our Battles Choose Us

Summary: AU. Embittered by her jealousy, Petunia agrees to supply Voldemort with information.

A/N I'd like to, first and foremost, state that this story is set in an Alternate Universe. Because of some recent comments on my other AU Potter fics, I feel that it is very important that everyone read this note before reading or reviewing. Voldemort hates muggles, yes, but Petunia, being Lily's sister, can be a valuable informant. Lily is desperate to believe her sister still loves her, and Petunia is desperate to gain entry into a world which she has always been denied. Voldemort, despite his hatred of muggles, is not stupid. He recognizes Petunia as a valuable asset, but he also treats her like something less than human. He likes to toy with her, and, in my opinion, this is not out of character for him. I'm sorry for explaining so much, but I am very annoyed with people trying to tell me that my characters are OOC based solely on their definitions of the character. If you don't think this situation is plausible, then please, stop reading the story, and for the love of all that is good, don't leave a rude review telling me that my AU is wrong based on your own definitions.

Now, I'm terribly sorry for sounding so bitchy, I hope that you guys read and enjoy the story! (I apologize if my note seemed rude.) The idea came to me after watching Thor: The Dark World. I've been delving into the land of Loki/Darcy fic, so I felt like paralleling Loki and Thor's relationship to that of Petunia and Lily's would be fun. Enjoy!

Petunia peered through the moth-eaten curtains, trying to see through the thick fog that rolled across the ground. It was a dull day in London. The sun was hidden by dark clouds, and the air was chilled.

"You know you shouldn't be in here."

Petunia hastily dropped her hand, and the curtains fluttered back into place, "I-I know. I apologize. I had hoped to meet with the Dark Lord."

Snape's pale face twisted into a sneer, "Are you foolish enough to believe the Dark Lord would take the time to meet with a pathetic muggle?"

Petunia stood up, idly brushing the lint off of her pink dress, "I believe he has found my information much more reliable than yours, Snape."

"How dare you," he snarled, "To come here and insinuate the Dark Lord sees you as anything more than an ant, fit only to be crushed beneath his boot."

"I insinuate nothing," Petunia replied, her lips pursed, "If you would be so kind as to inform the Dark Lord of my arrival-"

"Does your sister know of your treachery?" Snape spat, blatantly ignoring her request.

"Does she know of yours?" Petunia replied, her lips drawn back in an ugly snarl that revealed her horse-like teeth.

Snape seemed poised to retort, but a cold, detached voice echoed from the hallway before he could so much as curse, "Ah, Petunia. How very...interesting to see you again."

Voldemort stepped out of the shadows, a hood drawn over his face. His snake was curled around his shoulders, and Petunia couldn't help but shiver.

"My Lord," Severus inclined his head, "I apologize-"

"Leave us." His voice was cold, and although it chilled Petunia to the bone, she couldn't help but smirk at Snape.

Petunia was finally going to make something of herself. Ignoring the dark, guilty pang in her chest, she forced a tight-lipped smile on her face.

A/N Yeah, so I had to cut this short. I couldn't really get the narrative to where I wanted it to go. Most of that is my own fault, but I will say that I'm not a big fan of either Petunia or Lily, so I find it hard to write about them. My apologies. Anyway, if anyone's interested I might add on to this when I'm not under a time restraint. Please, no flames.
