Edward stands in his empty bedroom for a moment, savoring his memory of his first dance with Bella, to Debussy no less. Her awkward twist towards him as she cringed a little, his surprise at her absolute inability to see how graceful she was. Even amongst her stumbles Bella seemed to have given in to such incidents and just let go. So much so that she managed to make falling look like a flutter. He proceeded to let his mind wander through Bella 'bloopers' and smiled sadly to himself. It wasn't going to be easy but he could sure as hell stop torturing himself with walks down memory lane every ten seconds.

He couldn't lie to her, but he also couldn't stay with her and watch her turn herself into a monster thinking that it was her only chance at happiness. He knew humans, he knew she was only seventeen, and at seventeen she had no idea what she was giving up or who she would hurt by devoting herself to him. Her parents would blame themselves, people never get over that kind of loss. She too would lose out, she would lose out on having a family, a real one that grew old with her, children that would have the same sparkle in their eyes, she would lose out on a future.

Alice

Knock, knock...

Edward

Hey Alice, I'm coming. Was just saying goodbye to the room.

Alice

(Moves over to him and sighs deeply)

We don't have to say goodbye you know, it's not for certain that they'll come.

Edward

I wont let them touch her. We've been over this, why would you have seen it if it wasn't going to happen? As long as your vision hasn't changed, we're going.

Alice

But that's the thing Edward, it hasn't which means that we're not doing the right thing by leaving.

Edward

That's because she's still connected to me. Once I'm gone, once this nightmare is over, they'll have no reason to come. Our connection will be gone.

Alice

(Shakes her head)

It doesn't feel right Edward. She's my best friend and we're just abandoning her. My visions of her as a vampire, she's happy and-

Edward

Don't start with me Alice! She's not going to- that's just not an option ok?! Get it into your head, she will never ever be- she's so perfect and fragile and-

Alice

Okay, okay. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come in and upset you. I just need to know the gravity of this decision. She may never forgive you, us for that matter.

Edward

It won't matter. I'm not coming back.

Alice

Just so you know, I see a lot of different versions of how your life plans out here and not many of them are pretty. I hope you make the decisions that end in your happiness not just other's Edward.

Edward

Let's go.

A few minutes later the silver Volvo speeds out of the driveway leaving the Cullen's home empty.
