Just a very short TARDIS POV drabble, part of my TARDIS 100 series. No specific Doctor mentioned. The BBC own the lot, I just dream about it.
For LilCosette and eevee, who always like happy endings and who like me, wish they could be inside the TARDIS.
"The inside's bigger than the outside." That's what they always say, even if they don't say it out loud. It is true even for those who have come through my doors many times. I'm always hearing it in their minds.
I believe I am the only one in the universe who knows just how large I really am on the inside. Not even my Doctor has been to every room I contain, though he's tried quite hard to achieve that task.
It's certainly no secret that I contain many bedrooms and an extremely extensive wardrobe. I've heard many rumours about what else I contain: swimming pools, billiard tables, gardens, monsters, an ice rink, a hospital, many kitchens, a museum, a library, a chapel, an art gallery. I bet if someone looked hard enough, if someone was stubborn enough not to give up, they could find all of these and more.
I remember when I was once compared to a book. I thought it was a prefect simile. You can't judge a book by its cover, and the same goes for me. Books can take you anywhere, any time. So can I. The worlds you find in books make them so much larger than they really are, therefore they're also bigger on the inside.
However, unlike a book, I've been known to change. I admit I find it amusing when I make someone whom I'm not particularly fond of utterly and completely lost. You'd be amazed how easy it is to shift a room the size of a small house a hundred meters in the opposite direction. During the course of my long life, I've even had rooms disappear altogether, or damaged beyond recognition. I've had to make many repairs over the centuries, both with and without the Doctor's help. I've been decorated and redecorated more times then I care to count. I really don't mind. Change like that can be good.
My insides contain more than just objects and rooms. I am alive. I have a heart with powers beyond even the Doctor's imagination. I contain the mighty Time Vortex. I'm the only one in the universe who can safely contain it. I have a mind, and I can see into the minds of others. Their insides are just as interesting as mine. Love, desire, grief, jealousy, hate, fear, amazement, disappointment, confusion - I've seen it all and much, much more. I dare say I've felt it all too. How could I not? The things we've been through together…It would take decades to tell all the stories.
Fortunately, decades are something I have. So come on inside.
