Born of Silence

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. I do own Katsu. He's bored though, so if you want him, let me know.

Warnings: ONE SHOT! Um. . . some violence, but this is about ninja, so that's expected, and stupidity from Sound, but I think that's expected too. So, no warnings, really.

Author's Note: I wrote this after watching the chunnin exams, obviously, where those Sound kids attack Naruto and I got this little gem floating around. I mean, attacking a deaf kid with sound. What a great way to screw with them. And then this was born.

Have some fun with it, leave me a review, mock everyone involved, whatever. I wrote it for kicks, so feel free to have some fun with it. The piece probably deserves as much.

The boy smirked as he landed, his long black hair floating behind him, tied up in a high tail. Long bangs fell in front of his angry green eyes. Sakura had never seen the boy before, and his hitae-ate was from Hidden Mist. He smiled at Sakura, falling in front of Lee to help protect the gennin, and tilted his head to one side. "You should know not to attack those that cannot return fire," The boy frowned at the attackers. He was surprisingly noble, for a ninja.

The newcomer was probably about thirteen, right around Lee's age, but no one knew where he'd come from. "My team is on the way, and we'd really like that scroll of yours," The boy added, and Sakura frowned. There was an odd slur to the other's voice, as though he had a speech impediment.

"Oh?" The Sound ninja smirked. "You think you can defeat us?"

"Of course," The boy threw his head back and laughed. "You rely on sound."

"Of course. Sound affects everything," The enemy ninja wore a taunting expression. The boy shook his head.

"I am Mimishi Katsu." The boy's expression was almost smug. "And sound does not affect me."

"Before you start making long speeches, maybe you should learn to talk!" The Sound ninja roared, leaping at him, hands out to catch him in the sonic waves. He was fully expecting the noise to make Katsu sick, to deafen him and force him to his knees. Sakura blinked when Katsu didn't move, simply stood there and attacked with a kunai while a smirk graced his almost angry features. The attack failed, but everyone halted, frozen with confusion.

"You rely on my ears to take my power!" Katsu snarled, twirling the kunai expertly and falling into an attacking position. "And it will not work! I can't let it!"

"This is the sound of your doom! Don't you hear it?" The Sound ninja laughed.

Katsu's eyes flicked over him coolly and a smirk crossed his features. "No. I don't hear anything. I'm deaf."

The ninja all stared, and Katsu shifted, ready to leap at the Sound ninja. "What do I care if you attack with sound? Bring it on."

And then the battle commenced.
