"How was your trip?" Cas asked, but leaned down to give his wife a quick peck on the lips before she could answer.
"Fascinating. It's amazing how land dwellers can breathe on an underwater planet. How is that possible?" Meg asked as she started unpacking. She loved her job, being an ambassador for the Angels was perfect. She got to travel to other planets and learn all kinds of things about the species littering the universe, and the more she learned, the less she instinctively hated them. It had gotten to the point where she'd completely stopped hating Angels about fifty years prior.
Cas answered her question in long science terms she couldn't understand, but she didn't mind. It was nice to hear him blabber on again after she'd been away for so long. While she loved traveling, two months was a long time to be away from her family.
"Interesting," Meg nodded when he stopped.
"You didn't understand a word I said, did you?"
Meg turned to him with a laugh. "Nope, but I like hearing you talk," she shrugged.
Cas hugged her tightly. "I'm glad you're back."
"Me too, we have some catching up to do," she purred as she went to finger his belt buckle. Fifty years without ageing sure had it's benefits.
Cas stopped her by resting his hands on her wrists. "As much as I would love to, you know we have to get to the anniversary."
"It's a shame," Meg sighed dramatically.
"I'm not the one who chose to work so far away," he teased.
"No, you wanted to be a scientist. Excuse me for wanting to see more than the inside of a lab every day."
"Without scientists your job wouldn't be possible," he pointed out.
"Either way, I'm going to shower before we go."
"Didn't you just come from a water planet?" Cas tilted his head slightly to the right in confusion like Meg had grown used to seeing him do.
She rolled her eyes, "Fifty years and still innocent as ever. We'll have to work on that some more."
"What do you..-Oh. Oh."
"Yeah," Meg smirked, "Oh."
Chuck and Abaddon's thousand year anniversary dinner was exquisite. And huge. It seemed to Meg like the entire freaking army showed up. It was held on the ground of Heaven, something Meg had only seen twice before, so it could be lit with candles. Meg didn't think it was a good idea to put candles on a forest floor, especially one with a city on top of said forrest, but Cas assured her it was perfectly area had layers of leaves flattened and packed tightly to make a solid floor, and tables that weaved between two trees. The trees were huge at the base, but widespread enough that everyone fit.
Chuck and Abaddon were absolutely beaming the whole time, but it seemed to Meg like they would have been just as happy having dinner at home with just their close family like they did twice a month. While the couple smiled and talked with everyone who came up to them, and said close family who were at their table, they kept sneaking glances at each other and sharing short kisses when their glances met.
"So Gabriel," Abaddon turned to him once everyone at the table was done eating, "didn't you say you had an announcement?"
Gabriel. to everyone's amazement, actually looked slightly nervous at that. "Oh, uh, right." He glanced over to Kali. He still couldn't quite believe it was true. What if he had just imagined it? What if it had been a dream? What if he was about to announce something that wasn't real and then Kali would freak out and break up with him and what if, "Kali and I are engaged."
A/N: So I was totally done with Slaves and Monsters and then I started thinking about 'what happened' to them afterwards and this happened.
