Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li were sitting under a tree at King Penguin Park. There was a blanket under them and they both had picnic baskets next to them.
"This was a wonderful idea Syaoran," Sakura said, smiling softly.
"I was hoping you'd like it," he said with a small blush on his face.
Sakura opened into her basket and found fruit salad and a piece of watermelon wrapped in foil as well as several cut baloney sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies in vacuum sealed plastic bags.
"This looks good. Did you prepare all this yourself?"
"Yep," he said proudly. Sakura leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.
They ate their sandwiches in silence.
"Are you still nervous about going to college?" Sakura asked once she was finished.
"A little. Mostly because my mother still expects me to get near perfect grades and college is going be a lot more taxing than high school."
She smiled encouragingly at him. "You'll do fine. Just keep doing what you've been doing; working hard and managing your time. As long as your mother knows you did your best, she'll be proud of you."
"Thanks Sakura."
Once they had finished their food, they put the foil and bags in the baskets.
"I'll get the blanket," Sakura said standing up.
Syaoran stood up as well. "Wait Sakura. There's something I need to tell you."
She looked at him curiously. "What is it?"
"The real reason I choose this spot for our anniversary was because the question I'm about to ask you is very important and I wanted the moment to be perfect."
Syaoran took out a small black box and got down on one knee. Sakura's eyes widened in shock.
"Sakura, I love you with everything I have and everything I am. I want this start of college to also be the start of our life together." He opened the box to reveal a 24 karat diamond ring with a large emerald in the center. "Will you marry me?"
Sakura's eyes filled with tears and she sniffled, trying to stop the sobs that were building up in her throat.
"Syaoran…I-I can't."
The young man's smile faltered. "What do you mean?"
She bent down and reached into her bag, pulling out an envelope and handing it to him. He opened it and saw a letter of acceptance to Cambridge University, Sakura's dream college.
"I got accepted to Cambridge and that means I'll have to move to England. It's not that I don't want to marry you; I just don't want to start a marriage when we're hundreds of miles away from each other." The tears ran down her cheeks. "I'm sorry…"
Syaoran's reaction was not the one Sakura expected. He smiled and stood up before reaching into his pants pocket and pulling out an envelope of his own. Sakura took it and opened it, revealing a letter of acceptance to Cambridge.
"I knew you really wanted to get into Cambridge so I applied there too."
Sakura grinned and practically tackled him into a hug. "Yes."
"Yes, what?"
"Yes, I'll marry you!"
He returned the hug, a grin on his face.
